Beazley vs CFC: How Do They Compare for Business Insurance?

Technology firms can compare Beazley MediaTech’s combined technology, media and cyber cover with CFC’s separate technology and intellectual-property products.

Introduction to the Beazley vs CFC Comparison

A small software company agreeing to indemnify a customer for intellectual-property claims should compare the allegation, exclusions and contract wording: Beazley MediaTech combines technology, media and cyber, while CFC lists a technology package and separate IP coverage. 1 22 34 Choose Beazley MediaTech if the combined technology, media and cyber form fits; choose CFC if you need its broader technology package or separate IP product.

Key Differences Between Beazley and CFC

Public Sample Wording Is a Warning to Inspect the Current Form

Beazley’s linked MediaTech sample is dated February 2019 and contains patent and certain trade-secret exclusions, contractual-liability restrictions and retroactive-date provisions. Those details make it useful for identifying questions, but not for declaring the wording of a policy offered today. Request the current specimen and endorsements before concluding that a customer’s IP obligation is covered or excluded. 3 5

CFC separately markets intellectual-property insurance beyond the media/IP description in its technology brochure. That creates another product to investigate, not permission to import the standalone IP product’s features into the technology package. Ask whether patent defense, enforcement and contractual indemnities require distinct coverage. 34 22

Application Notices Can Change How a Limit Should Be Read

Beazley advertises MediaTech limits up to $5 million. Its posted Digital Media Tech application states that liability is claims-made and reported and that claims expenses reduce the liability limit and are subject to retentions. Those application notices warrant explicit confirmation in a current quote; an advertised limit is not necessarily all available for damages after defense expense. 1 2

CFC’s application gathers products, services, contracts, revenue and claims information through a broker. Use the same operational description for both submissions, then compare defense-cost treatment, reporting conditions and prior-acts provisions in the offered policies. The CFC brochure alone does not settle those terms. 23 22

Adjacent Cyber and Executive Products Are Not Automatic Package Benefits

Beazley’s small-business Full Spectrum Cyber page describes security and response services, with a broker quote route scoped to that cyber product. Its criteria should not be transferred to MediaTech. CFC markets a response proposition, but the buyer should still obtain the service entitlement for the proposed technology contract. 9 27

Beazley’s Execuguard offers shared or separate executive-risk limits with admitted and non-admitted options. That is not proof of California acceptance. CFC’s reviewed US management offering expressly declines California-domiciled business. A founder needing board protection should obtain a separate, eligible proposal rather than regard either technology package as a complete fundraising program. 10 31

What Should You Confirm in Beazley and CFC Quotes?

  • What current form and endorsements govern patent, trade-secret and contractual-indemnity claims, and is separate IP insurance required?
  • Do defense expenses reduce limits, what retroactive date applies, and when must a claim or circumstance be reported?
  • Which California producer, insurer and placement route apply, and which response services or executive policies are separately purchased?

CriteriaBeazleyCFC
Coverage lines

MediaTech puts technology and professional E&O, media liability and cyber in one package; Beazley lists breach response, business interruption, dependent interruption, extortion, data recovery and eCrime up to $5 million, but the issued policy sets actual coverage. 1Company-reported. US small-business MediaTech marketing; maximum is advertised capacity, not a guaranteed quote.

Review exclusions before relying on MediaTech for IP disputes: the linked February 2019 sample excludes patent infringement and trade-secret misappropriation tied to technology or other products and restricts contractual liability and retroactive dates. It is not current quote wording. 3,5Company-reported. F00731 022019; exclusions on printed pages 16–18; qualified reviewer must interpret a current quote form.

Private companies can choose separate or shared limits across D&O, employment practices and fiduciary liability under Execuguard; admitted or non-admitted options still depend on state and account eligibility. 10Company-reported. US Execuguard; no assertion every coverage is included in every quote.

Businesses concerned about fraudulent instructions can ask Beazley about its Commercial Crime or Financial Fidelity Bond products; the described protection may require out-of-band authentication or added premium for documented controls. 11Company-reported. US crime and fidelity offering; financial-institution bonds are distinct from fiduciary liability.

Digital-health buyers can compare Virtual Care’s healthcare, technology, cyber, media, general and product liability; life-sciences businesses can consider BioSecure, NutraGuard or WellTech for product, professional and general liability. 13,14Company-reported. Specialty healthcare packages, not universal MediaTech benefits.

Mid-sized and large property owners can ask about North American Commercial Property on an excess-and-surplus basis; manufacturers can separately consider Product Recall for removal and related income-loss costs. 15,16Company-reported. Separate US-marketed product routes; commercial property is not a business owner’s policy.

Environmental-service firms can consider BeazleyOne Environmental’s combined general, professional and pollution liability; marine operators can ask about hull and marine liability. These do not establish a general corporate umbrella. 17,18Company-reported. Industry-specific products; marine builders risk is not mapped to general construction builders risk.

Companies buying or selling a business can ask about representations-and-warranties insurance; Beazley also places specialist programs through MGAs and brokers for professional, general, product, manufacturers’ E&O, cyber and allied-medical risks. 12,19Company-reported. Transaction insurance and delegated programs are distinct from a small-business direct purchase flow.

For liability claims, confirm the reporting window and limit available after defense costs: Beazley’s application says coverage is claims-made and reported, with claims expenses reducing the limit and subject to retentions. 2Company-reported. Application notice, page 1; current issued wording and endorsements control.

Technology companies can compare a package of E&O, cyber, media/IP and general liability, including client-contract breach exposures; the quote and wording determine which sections and exclusions apply. 22Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Businesses can compare CFC’s Proactive Response, admitted cyber, Corporate cyber and cyber excess options; an admitted label does not establish California eligibility or identical wording. 29Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

CFC lists D&O, EPL, fiduciary, crime and Side A DIC excess; however, its US management-liability brochure declines California-domiciled business, so these catalogue items do not establish California access. 30,31Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

If you need IP defense or enforcement costs, CFC separately markets intellectual-property insurance, including patent exposures; compare that policy’s scope with the narrower IP terms in a technology quote. 34,22Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Fintech, digital-health and life-sciences companies can ask CFC about sector packages that combine relevant financial, technology or product risks; each requires its own underwriting and terms. 43,39,42Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

CFC’s broader US catalogue includes professional E&O, property, general and media liability, medical malpractice, product recall, kidnap and ransom, and umbrella over selected lines; these are not automatically part of a technology policy or available in California. 32,33,41,40,36,35,38Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Companies pursuing an acquisition or secondary-liquidity transaction can ask CFC about representations-and-warranties insurance and buyer, seller or liquidity solutions; these are transaction products, not ordinary operating coverage. 37Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Businesses with specialist exposures can explore CFC’s carbon-credit, CORSIA, sexual-abuse, terrorism and marine offerings; a US catalogue listing does not establish California access. 45,46,47,48Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Application process

Prepare company services, products, employee count, US and foreign revenue, financial statements and expected changes for a MediaTech application; Beazley accepts placement through third-party platforms or email, but submission is not acceptance or binding. 1,2Company-reported. Published small-business placement description and F00859 042022; no application submitted or binding time tested.

A senior staff member should expect to complete the technology application and send it to a broker; it asks for revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, contracts, security, IP procedures and claims history. CFC Connect separately supports broker trading and appointments. 23,26Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Access to insurers

Check the insurer named on your quote: Beazley’s Digital Media Tech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc., while other US business can use Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance, Inc. or Lloyd’s syndicates. These examples do not identify the issuer for every MediaTech quote. 2,7Company-reported. Application F00859 042022 and general US toolkit disclosure; no blanket insurer assignment.

Before binding a California technology policy, get the insurer and syndicate names in writing: CFC identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta, but its US technology materials do not identify the insurer for a buyer’s quote. 24,22,23Not publicly disclosed. Technology coverage for a California applicant; Syndicate 1988 is not assigned to every CFC policy.

Servicing and renewals

Do not assume renewal or service speed: Beazley publishes a MediaTech renewal application, but no guarantee, dedicated account manager or policy-change turnaround was established. 4,1Company-reported. Public renewal document and service description; no policyholder account or service performance tested.

Small businesses under $35 million in revenue may consider Beazley’s broker myBeazley quote-and-bind route for eligible cyber accounts with limits up to $5 million; Full Spectrum Cyber combines breach response with security tools. These route criteria do not establish MediaTech eligibility. 9Company-reported. Small-business Full Spectrum Cyber only; services, costs and entitlements depend on actual arrangements.

Cyber buyers can get threat monitoring, alerts, a response app and round-the-clock technical incident support according to CFC; check the proposed policy for access, scope and conditions. 27Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Agree on renewal timing, certificate turnaround and account support before choosing CFC; reviewed materials do not specify those commitments for California technology buyers. 26,23Not publicly disclosed. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.
