Key Differences Between CFC and HUB International

HUB’s Entry Route Depends on the Size of the Inquiry

HUB’s contact flow sends businesses with 50 employees or fewer or under $5 million in revenue toward Insureon’s online quote. Other commercial inquiries go to a HUB team or office. CFC Connect is a broker portal with an appointment process; its technology application is returned to a broker. These are different access paths, not evidence of different binding speeds. 37 6 3

Insureon is part of HUB, and TechInsurance describes itself as part of Insureon. Comparing HUB, Insureon and TechInsurance inquiries therefore does not automatically create three independent brokerage relationships. Ask which legal entity and account team would represent the business before counting how many markets have been approached. 63 64 66

A Technology Product and a Technology Account Plan Answer Different Questions

CFC’s technology brochure describes combined E&O, cyber, media/IP and general liability features. HUB’s technology practice lists insurance and people-related needs, including technology E&O, D&O, workers’ compensation and benefits. The meaningful comparison is the CFC policy proposal against the specific policies HUB obtains, with HUB’s additional coordination work evaluated separately. 2 39

Do not read HUB’s unusual “patent package” label as proof of patent infringement insurance: the reviewed public documentation scopes that label to a property, auto, liability and umbrella grouping. CFC separately markets an IP product, which likewise needs its own terms rather than assumptions based on a technology package’s media/IP wording. 39 14

Brokerage Economics Require an Account-Level Explanation

HUB discloses commissions, possible client fees, affiliate wholesale compensation and enhanced compensation from strategic carriers. That disclosure helps frame questions about market selection; it does not establish the cost of a startup’s account. The reviewed CFC sources do not publish an equivalent buyer fee or commission schedule, so a CFC proposal also needs an itemized explanation from the placing broker. 36

Request premium, taxes, fees and intermediary pay in a written breakdown; CFC’s reviewed US technology materials do not disclose a buyer-specific price, commission rate or full charge schedule. 2,3,6Not publicly disclosed. Only the listed US technology and broker-process sources; no inference of free service or zero commission. Australian and unrelated Irish CFC disclosures are not US pricing evidence.

HUB’s San Francisco presence is not proof of the contracting producer or California product availability. CFC’s disclosed California producer route also leaves the technology product and issuer unresolved. Name those entities in the proposal rather than relying on either brand’s geographic presence. 34 30 4

What Should You Confirm in CFC and HUB International Quotes?

  • Will the account be handled by a HUB office or Insureon, and which legal entity, broker-of-record agreement and service team apply? 37 64
  • Which actual technology forms and insurers are being compared, and is patent coverage being requested explicitly? 2 14 39
  • What retail, wholesale, carrier-related and client-paid compensation applies, and what servicing is included? 36 5 34

CFC vs HUB International Services Compared

What each provider documents about the services you may need

CriteriaCFCHUB International
Business role

CFC can quote specialist cover as an MGA, meaning it performs some underwriting functions for insurers that carry the risk. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand is not the insurer name on every policy. 5,4Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

HUB helps businesses arrange insurance through brokers and agents; reviewed product pages describe brokerage, not HUB as the insurer. Its subsidiaries hold licenses in various US states and Canadian provinces. 33,34,38Company-reported. Brand and parent identity as of 16 September 2026. Does not identify which subsidiary would appear on a California producer license or policy declarations.

Small businesses may reach HUB through its digital Insureon route, acquired in 2022; Insureon and TechInsurance are associated with Specialty Program Group, so the retail account path may differ from HUB’s offices. 33,63,64,65,66Company-reported. Corporate-affiliation statements. Does not establish that every HUB office places business through Insureon, or that TechInsurance is a distinct California producer.

Application process

A senior staff member should expect to complete the technology application and send it to a broker; it asks for revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, contracts, security, IP procedures and claims history. CFC Connect separately supports broker trading and appointments. 3,6Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Small accounts meeting HUB’s size guidelines can start an online Insureon quote; other buyers contact a HUB broker or local office. The reviewed site does not offer a public self-serve bind route for mid-market programs. 37,40,41,42,39,35Company-reported. Public website paths as of 16 September 2026. No application was submitted. Insureon’s own site is a separate digital agency flow.

Access to insurers

Before binding a California technology policy, get the insurer and syndicate names in writing: CFC identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta, but its US technology materials do not identify the insurer for a buyer’s quote. 4,2,3Not publicly disclosed. Technology coverage for a California applicant; Syndicate 1988 is not assigned to every CFC policy.

Ask which insurers will quote your business: HUB says it accesses hundreds but focuses on strategic carriers that may pay enhanced compensation; public pages do not provide a complete panel or identify your issuing insurer. 36,48,56,57,45Company-reported. No verified HUB-wide carrier panel. Strategic-carrier focus is a compensation and placement practice, not a finding that only those markets are used.

Insureon names Hartford, Chubb, Hiscox, Liberty Mutual and Travelers among 100+ providers, but that list applies to its digital agency and does not establish the insurer for a HUB retail policy. 63Company-reported. Insureon About Us examples only. Availability varies by product, state and underwriting.

Fees and compensation

Request premium, taxes, fees and intermediary pay in a written breakdown; CFC’s reviewed US technology materials do not disclose a buyer-specific price, commission rate or full charge schedule. 2,3,6Not publicly disclosed. Only the listed US technology and broker-process sources; no inference of free service or zero commission. Australian and unrelated Irish CFC disclosures are not US pricing evidence.

Ask for compensation on your proposal: HUB says it receives insurer commissions, contingent and supplemental payments and sometimes client fees, may use affiliated wholesalers, and may earn administration or data fees; it publishes no standard rates. 36Company-reported. Firmwide compensation disclosure. Amounts for a given account are not disclosed on the public page.
