Key Differences Between CFC and Corgi

A Technology Contract and a Board Request Need Separate Answers

CFC’s technology brochure combines E&O, cyber and media/IP exposures with general liability. Corgi’s startup packages also name board and employment coverages, organized around funding stages. Use that difference to request a coverage-by-obligation proposal: the customer’s software-failure requirement and the director’s personal-liability concern should not disappear inside one package label. 2 31

For a California-domiciled business, CFC’s management-liability brochure specifically lists that domicile among declined risks. This is not a finding about CFC technology eligibility. Corgi’s published producer-license list likewise is not a product approval list. Resolve the board placement separately before comparing a combined annual price. 11 33

The Insurer Structure Matters More Than the Brand Label

Corgi’s public D&O page identifies Technology Risk Retention Group for its described form. Its canonical research distinguishes that RRG from the company-announced admitted Corgi Insurance Company and other partner paper. Ask which route your actual quote uses; an admitted-carrier announcement should not be applied to an RRG policy. 34 38 30

If your Corgi policy is issued by Technology Risk Retention Group, state insurance guaranty funds do not cover it; this is a material difference to weigh against an admitted option. 49,31,30VerifiedRRG policies. This is a statutory qualification, not a prediction of insolvency, and it is not a statement about admitted policies.

CFC’s disclosures identify its underwriting and producer entities and Syndicate 1988, but do not establish the insurer for this California technology quote. Comparing CFC with “Corgi” therefore requires the actual insurer names on both proposals, plus any contractual insurer-status requirements imposed by the customer. 4 2

Application Convenience Does Not Set the Effective Date

Corgi offers online application or a specialist call; CFC’s US technology form is completed by senior staff and returned to the broker. The latter asks about contracts, subsidiaries and security controls. Decide who will reconcile those answers with the customer agreement, even if the initial application experience is short. 31 3

Corgi’s disclosure describes both policy-issuance/payment conditions and temporary written binders. Obtain the applicable binding confirmation instead of relying on advertised same-day purchasing. Corgi discloses possible commissions or fees; CFC’s reviewed technology materials do not publish the buyer’s complete charges. Neither distribution path establishes a lower total cost. 30 6 2

What Should You Confirm in CFC and Corgi Quotes?

  • Map the customer clause and board request to separate coverage sections, including the California management-liability route. 11 34
  • Identify the insurer on every coverage and whether a proposed Corgi placement uses RRG or admitted paper; identify CFC’s participating insurer or syndicates rather than assuming Syndicate 1988. 30 4
  • Request the written effective date, selected limits and retentions, and full producer charges before treating the two package prices as comparable. 30 3

CFC vs Corgi Services Compared

What each provider documents about the services you may need

CriteriaCFCCorgi
Business role

CFC can quote specialist cover as an MGA, meaning it performs some underwriting functions for insurers that carry the risk. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand is not the insurer name on every policy. 5,4Company-reportedCFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Your Corgi policy’s named insurer provides coverage; Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the agency that sells and administers policies. 30,31,33Company-reportedDistribution role and brand usage as of 15 September 2026. Producer licensing is not insurer authority, and group language does not make every group company the issuing insurer on a given policy.

Application process

A senior staff member should expect to complete the technology application and send it to a broker; it asks for revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, contracts, security, IP procedures and claims history. CFC Connect separately supports broker trading and appointments. 3,6Company-reportedCFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

You can apply online or book a specialist call, and Corgi says eligible applicants may quote in minutes and buy the same day; confirm in writing whether coverage starts at policy issuance/payment or under a binder and the effective date. 31,30Company-reportedCompany website process claims and Binding Authority and Policy Issuance disclosure, rechecked on 15 September 2026. The disclosure's first paragraph requires policy issuance and payment, while its next paragraph describes temporary binder coverage; this record does not resolve which conditions apply to a particular placement. Quote speed is not independently verified and is not the same as coverage being in force. A self-serve path is not evidence of zero producer commissions or fees.

Access to insurers

Before binding a California technology policy, get the insurer and syndicate names in writing: CFC identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta, but its US technology materials do not identify the insurer for a buyer’s quote. 4,2,3Not publicly disclosedTechnology coverage for a California applicant; Syndicate 1988 is not assigned to every CFC policy.

Check your policy declarations for the insurer and claims administrator because Corgi may use affiliated or partner insurers. 30Company-reportedCompany disclosure of variable issuing paper. Do not treat the Corgi brand, the producer, or any one carrier as the insurer on every policy.

If your quote uses Technology Risk Retention Group, check the insurer’s financial and regulatory information directly: NAIC lists it as Arizona-domiciled P&C company 17763 (TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi calls it its primary underwriting entity and an RRG under the Liability Risk Retention Act; its description of federal charter and oversight is company language, not an independent legal conclusion. 46,30,32,31,47,48Company-reportedEntity identity and Arizona domicile are supported by the NAIC listing. Which Corgi products currently issue on TRRG paper is company-described and can vary by account. NAIC and the Liability Risk Retention Act describe RRGs as state-chartered or state-licensed liability insurers with domiciliary-state regulation of formation and operation.

If a quote uses a risk retention group, remember it is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state and registered elsewhere under federal law; members have similar or related risks. 47,48,50VerifiedGeneral RRG charter, membership, and oversight from current NAIC topic material last updated 13 October 2025 and the cited statutes. This is not a statement of TRRG’s surplus, a federal charter, or of which Corgi products currently issue on TRRG paper. The reviewed sources do not describe voting, dividend, or assessment rights for a Corgi policyholder in practice.

If admitted coverage or guaranty-association protection matters to you, ask Corgi about affiliated or partner carriers it says are rated A- or better; eligibility depends on state, line and business, and state protection has limits. 30,32,31,38Company-reportedCompany description of an alternative placement path. It is not a guarantee that a given account will receive A- admitted paper, not an AM Best rating of TRRG or of Corgi Insurance Company, Inc., and not a blanket guarantee of guaranty-association payment. Guaranty-association language does not apply to risk retention group policies.

Ask how you assess the insurer’s financial strength if the quote uses Technology Risk Retention Group: Corgi says it has no AM Best rating, which is separate from admitted status. 30,34Company-reportedCompany statement about TRRG. Admitted status, an AM Best rating, and financial condition are separate facts. This profile does not assign a financial-strength grade to TRRG.

If a financial-strength rating or specific state authority is a requirement, request it for Corgi Insurance Company; its August 2026 launch announcement provided neither a rating nor a complete state-license list. 38,51Not found in reviewed sourcesReviewed public sources as of 15 September 2026. Not finding a published rating is not a finding that the company has no rating, no capital, or no authorization.

The insurer named on your policy remains responsible for claims even if it shares risk with reinsurers; Corgi does not name current reinsurers or contract terms publicly. 30,43Not publicly disclosedPublic disclosures as of 15 September 2026. Not identifying a named panel is not a finding that there is no reinsurance.

Availability

California buyers should confirm product eligibility and current license authority before applying: CFC reports all-state producer licenses and surplus-lines authorization in four states, including California. It identifies CFC General Insurance Agency, Inc. as its California licensing name; this disclosure was not independently checked. 4Company-reportedCFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

California-domiciled businesses should look elsewhere for the described management-liability product, and standalone EPL is also listed as declined. This restriction applies to the January 2026 brochure’s offering, not every CFC product. 11Company-reportedCFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.

Ask CFC for a current California eligibility answer before spending time on a technology application; reviewed pages do not establish the route for a particular startup. A 2023 admitted Tech E&O announcement does not supply a current product schedule. 1,2,3,29Not found in reviewed sourcesCalifornia technology-product access only. General producer authorization is separate from product eligibility. No live quote or state filing was obtained.

Corgi lists agency licenses in 49 states and DC, but not New Mexico; this does not guarantee a specific product is available, so confirm state and underwriting eligibility. 33,31,30Company-reportedCurrent published producer-license table and territorial qualifications, accessed 15 September 2026. A producer license is not an insurer certificate of authority and does not establish that every product can be bound in each listed jurisdiction.

Confirm which states the risk-retention-group insurer is registered in before relying on its policy: a Rhode Island list dated June 23, 2026 names Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. in San Francisco, but the reviewed sources do not provide a complete state list. 45VerifiedOne non-domicile RRG registration record. The Rhode Island document is titled “Registered Federal Risk Retention Groups”; that title is the state’s list label, not a finding that TRRG holds a federal charter. Registration is not admitted-insurer licensing, and one state list does not establish a nationwide registration footprint.

Fees and compensation

Request premium, taxes, fees and intermediary pay in a written breakdown; CFC’s reviewed US technology materials do not disclose a buyer-specific price, commission rate or full charge schedule. 2,3,6Not publicly disclosedOnly the listed US technology and broker-process sources; no inference of free service or zero commission. Australian and unrelated Irish CFC disclosures are not US pricing evidence.

Ask for the commission or customer fee on your policy because Corgi Insurance Services may receive either from you or the insurer. 30Company-reportedProducer compensation disclosure. Website, self-serve, or other direct distribution is not a finding of zero commissions or fees. Specific amounts were not published in the reviewed sources.

Corgi gives annual price examples of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed/seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A; your quote depends on risk, state, coverage and limits. 31,35,36Company-reportedCompany-reported ranges and a marketing savings claim, not comparable quotes. They are not premiums for a defined risk, limit, retention, or policy period. “Underwrites directly” is not a finding of zero producer commissions or fees, and no public methodology for the 30 percent figure was found.
