CFC vs
Relm Insurance: How Do They Compare for Business Insurance?
CFC’s technology package includes media/IP with a separate IP product; Relm’s NOVAAI targets AI developer liability and its excess AI wrap adds a distinct layer.
Introduction to the CFC vs Relm Insurance Comparison
An AI company weighing product liability, defense and rights enforcement should distinguish CFC’s separate IP cover from Relm’s AI developer and excess products. Choose CFC for technology E&O with media/IP or separate IP needs; choose Relm for NOVAAI or an excess AI wrap. 2 14 36

Separate Infringement Defense from Enforcing Your Rights
CFC's standalone IP offering describes infringement defense, enforcement and patent exposures. Its technology brochure also includes media/IP protection, but those provisions should not be assumed to match the separate product. Relm's AI developer description does not establish blanket patent or enforcement coverage. Ask which rights, activities and remedies the offered forms actually address. 14 2 36
This distinction matters when a customer alleges that an AI output infringes and when the startup wants to pursue someone copying its own technology. Those are separate scenarios to put to underwriting; a shared IP catalogue label does not answer both. 14 36
A Wrap Requires the Underlying Exclusion to Be Visible
CFC's technology brochure describes a package combining E&O, cyber, media/IP and general liability, including liability arising from client contract breaches. Relm's PONTAAI describes an excess difference-in-conditions AI wrap. If a startup is considering a wrap over a package, provide the complete underlying wording and ask whether the disputed exposure is excluded, sublimited or already covered. The reviewed public materials do not establish that PONTAAI can be placed over a particular CFC policy. 2 37
CFC's application asks about products, contracts, security controls and IP procedures and is returned through the broker. That is useful preparation for the comparison: the same facts should support both proposals rather than allowing different descriptions of the product to drive an apparent coverage difference. 3 40
California Restrictions Must Stay Attached to Their Product
CFC's January 2026 management-liability brochure declines California-domiciled business. That restriction should not be extended to all CFC technology products, whose current California route remains unresolved in the reviewed public documentation. Relm's AI route is also unresolved. Neither a producer disclosure nor CFC's named Lloyd's syndicate identifies every policy's insurer. 11 1 4 31
CFC's MGA role and Relm's insurer/US producer structure make the issuing entity and participating capacity an essential part of the proposal, particularly where an IP policy and a technology package use different forms. 5 4 31
What Should You Confirm in CFC and Relm Insurance Quotes?
- Identify whether output allegations, patent defense and enforcement of the startup's own rights are included, excluded or separately insured. 14 2 36
- For any wrap, show the underlying exclusion, attachment and conditions for responding when the primary policy does not. 37 2
- Confirm each insurer and California route; keep CFC's management-liability restriction distinct from technology eligibility. 4 11 31
CFC vs Relm Insurance Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | CFC | Relm Insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | CFC can quote specialist cover as an MGA, meaning it performs some underwriting functions for insurers that carry the risk. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand is not the insurer name on every policy. 5,4Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. | AI and emerging-industry buyers can approach Relm for specialty insurance, but its Bermuda insurer and US distributor perform different roles. 30,32,31Company-reported. Brand-level introduction; company descriptions, not an independent regulatory finding. Check who will sell and issue your policy: Relm Insurance Ltd. is Bermuda regulated; Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. is a US producer and MGA. The Bermuda insurer says it works only through licensed brokers. 31,32Company-reported. Company legal disclosures and US launch announcement; authority and insurer vary by placement. No regulator license verification completed. |
| Application process | A senior staff member should expect to complete the technology application and send it to a broker; it asks for revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, contracts, security, IP procedures and claims history. CFC Connect separately supports broker trading and appointments. 3,6Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. | Relm’s inquiry form collects company and location details; its US offering is distributed through partners and licensed brokers, with no documented instant quote or online bind. 40,32Company-reported. Public inquiry and broker-led access; no form submitted and no quotation received. |
| Availability | California buyers should confirm product eligibility and current license authority before applying: CFC reports all-state producer licenses and surplus-lines authorization in four states, including California. It identifies CFC General Insurance Agency, Inc. as its California licensing name; this disclosure was not independently checked. 4Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. California-domiciled businesses should look elsewhere for the described management-liability product, and standalone EPL is also listed as declined. This restriction applies to the January 2026 brochure’s offering, not every CFC product. 11Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. Ask CFC for a current California eligibility answer before spending time on a technology application; reviewed pages do not establish the route for a particular startup. A 2023 admitted Tech E&O announcement does not supply a current product schedule. 1,2,3,29Not found in reviewed sources. California technology-product access only. General producer authorization is separate from product eligibility. No live quote or state filing was obtained. | California buyers should verify producer authority independently: Relm lists license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc., but this company disclosure is not an independent license check or surplus-lines authorization. 31Company-reported. California row only; absence of a listed surplus-lines authority is not evidence that no lawful distribution route exists. Get written California terms before applying because reviewed pages do not establish the insurer, admitted status or broker route for NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI. 31,32,35Not found in reviewed sources. Scoped unresolved California AI placement route, not a finding of unavailability. US marketing and producer licensing alone do not establish a particular policy route. |
| Access to insurers | Before binding a California technology policy, get the insurer and syndicate names in writing: CFC identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta, but its US technology materials do not identify the insurer for a buyer’s quote. 4,2,3Not publicly disclosed. Technology coverage for a California applicant; Syndicate 1988 is not assigned to every CFC policy. | Ask which insurer is named on your policy; Relm’s announcement names Trisura as fronting carrier for certain US digital-asset risks, not all products or California AI coverage. 39Company-reported. Historical company announcement inspected on research date; current product-specific contracting insurer must be obtained from quote/declarations. |
| Servicing and renewals | Cyber buyers can get threat monitoring, alerts, a response app and round-the-clock technical incident support according to CFC; check the proposed policy for access, scope and conditions. 7Company-reported. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. Agree on renewal timing, certificate turnaround and account support before choosing CFC; reviewed materials do not specify those commitments for California technology buyers. 6,3Not publicly disclosed. CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment. | Agree on certificates, endorsements, renewal timing and service contacts with your broker before binding; reviewed pages do not describe a customer portal or these turnaround times. 40,42Not publicly disclosed. Public contact and website terms only; lack of described functions does not establish their absence. |
