Financing Risk and the Work Being Insured
If a security-services company raises outside capital and adds armed patrols, those changes create different insurance questions. Founder Shield’s D&O material addresses directors’ and officers’ liability, including protection for individuals and exclusions concerning major shareholders. Harper’s security practice specifically addresses armed guards, mobile patrols and liability arising from guard conduct. An investor’s insurance request and an operational liability submission therefore need different supporting documents. 13 40
For the financing, send the ownership structure and investor requirements and ask how shareholder claims are treated. For the patrol expansion, describe duties, vehicles and use-of-force exposures and request the relevant exclusions and endorsements. Neither a D&O label nor a security-industry landing page proves that a proposed policy covers the scenario. Those requests test the proposed programs; they do not establish that only one broker can arrange either type of insurance. 13 40
Founder Shield’s catalogue markets health and benefits services. Harper’s privacy policy says it does not currently offer health or life insurance. If hiring creates a benefits project alongside commercial liability, ask whether that project sits inside the engagement or requires another provider; Harper’s Georgia life qualification does not establish an available life product. 11 32 33
Proposed Insurers and Network Totals
Both businesses are intermediaries. Founder Shield’s terms expressly separate its service from insuring the risk or determining coverage. Harper’s wholesale page describes selected delegated binding authority, but does not identify its complete product and state scope. Authority to bind a particular insurer’s contract would not turn Harper into the insurer responsible for that contract. 2 43
Their network figures also measure different things: Founder Shield advertises carriers, while Harper’s funding announcement counts underwriters. Comparing those totals as though they measured competing offers would be misleading. Request a placement record showing the markets approached, their responses and the reason for the recommendation. If both brokers approach the same insurer, clarify how that insurer handles the submissions before assuming there will be two independent offers. 6 10 42
For a contract with a financial-strength requirement, obtain evidence for the exact issuing entity. Founder Shield states an AM Best selection standard; an older Harper article uses an unspecified AAA description. Those statements do not supply comparable current ratings for the two proposed insurers. 10 46
Deadlines, Certificates and Endorsements
Founder Shield describes proposal approval, payment selection, a desired start date and follow-up signatures. Harper’s messaging terms require written coverage confirmation from Harper and the applicable carrier. Its advertised placement speed and Founder Shield’s advertised application time concern different stages. For a contract starting Monday, request a list of outstanding underwriting conditions and written confirmation of the effective date. 9 6 31 42
Founder Shield asks for contract insurance requirements when handling certificates so it can assess endorsement needs. Harper’s portal advertises certificate access. If a customer requests additional-insured protection, downloading proof and obtaining the policy amendment are separate tasks: ask who checks the requirement, arranges any endorsement and confirms completion. Neither an emailed request nor a portal document establishes that new protection was added. 18 45
Cost and Service After Placement
Founder Shield discloses several compensation routes and policy-dependent financing options. Harper publishes a referring-agent commission split, but that split is not a buyer discount or a complete fee schedule. Compare the total policy-period charge and financing repayment, then ask each broker to identify its remuneration on this account. No matched quotes establish which costs less. 2 22 44
When another agent introduces Harper, service ownership still needs an explicit assignment. Its referral program assigns the ongoing account to Harper, while its separate wholesale offering allows other arrangements. Founder Shield asks clients to report operational changes during the year. Agree who will receive a new-location or new-product update and who will obtain insurer acceptance; do not leave that responsibility with the person who merely made an introduction. 44 43 19
For claims, Founder Shield documents portal reporting and insurer-direct notice; Harper describes advocacy and documentation help, while its messaging terms warn against relying on text for urgent matters. That difference in published instructions is not evidence of different settlement quality. Obtain the policy’s reporting address and identify who confirms delivery to the insurer. 21 46 31
What Should You Confirm in Founder Shield and Harper Quotes?
- A financing-and-operations coverage map: Identify the D&O treatment of investor claims separately from exclusions affecting the actual work, and say who will arrange benefits if needed. 13 40 32
- A market and authority record: Name the producer, issuing insurer, route to that insurer, current rating evidence and person authorized to bind. 2 10 43
- A contract-completion file: Include written effective-date confirmation, the certificate and any required endorsements, with an owner for unresolved conditions. 18 31
- An account-specific service and cost schedule: Separate financing from premium, identify any referring agent’s role, and name the renewal and urgent-claims contacts. 22 21 44 31
Founder Shield vs Harper Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Founder Shield | Harper |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Venture-backed and high-growth businesses from early rounds through IPO can use Founder Shield’s industry practices in technology, life sciences, finance, retail and transportation. 1,6Company-reported. Stated customer focus, not an audited customer census or an eligibility guarantee. | Businesses in hard-to-place industries can ask Harper for broker help; its listed specialties include contracting, restaurants, auto, care, manufacturing and transportation. 37,42Company-reported. Examples of advertised appetite, not a verified customer census or eligibility guarantee. |
| Application process | You can start by creating an account through Founder Shield’s quote portal using Google, Microsoft or email sign-in. 7,8Verified. Public interface directly observed in Chrome on September 15, 2026. No sign-in, identity-provider flow, registration submission, quote or authenticated workflow tested. Founder Shield says its application takes under 15 minutes, but that does not guarantee how quickly insurers will quote or when coverage can start. 6Company-reported. Startup page marketing claim. No timed application or binding exercise performed. To bind coverage, Founder Shield says you approve the proposal, choose payment and a start date, then sign remaining documents while its team handles insurer paperwork. 9Company-reported. Documented general process; the actual carrier’s outstanding requirements and confirmation determine the transaction. No completed purchase observed. | You can request a quote by providing business, revenue, state, operations and coverage details; the form starts an inquiry and does not show a premium or issued policy. 30Company-reported. Browser inspection of the blank homepage footer form. No data entered or submitted, so later application, quote, payment and binding screens were not tested. Harper says its internal Hub software helps staff complete forms, identify markets and manage client communication; the launch announcement describes greater automation as a future direction. 35Company-reported. Founder-authored description hosted by the accelerator; not independent verification of automation quality or a buyer-facing software subscription. Harper says AI extracts document details, drafts messages and organizes follow-up, while licensed staff and carriers review eligibility and binding decisions; automated marketing does not mean a machine approves coverage alone. 32Company-reported. Privacy sections 3 and 8; stated controls only. No audit of model accuracy, staff review or underwriting delegation. Before uploading sensitive records, understand how Harper uses them: its privacy policy says applications and loss data help train Harper’s models, while enterprise AI vendors say they do not train foundation models on customer data. 32Company-reported. Sections 2, 7 and 8. Company-reported data handling, not an independent privacy or security certification. Do not rely on a text message to start or change coverage: Harper’s terms require written confirmation from Harper and the insurer, and text quotes remain subject to underwriting. 31Company-reported. Section 11, effective August 24, 2026. Does not establish a particular insurer’s required payment or signing sequence. Harper advertises a 24–48-hour placement time, but it is a company estimate rather than a deadline; ask what approvals and documents remain before relying on a start date. 42Company-reported. February 26, 2026 marketing claim, not independently measured. Current homepage refers to same-week answers, a different milestone; neither is a binding service-level guarantee. |
| Access to insurers | Founder Shield advertises access to 200+ carriers, but that does not promise your account will receive 200 quotes; its broker says it first looks for markets willing to insure your industry and risk. 6,10Company-reported. Company network and selection claims. No complete roster, direct-appointment census, market submission log or competitive quote exercise obtained. Founder Shield says it works exclusively with AM Best A-rated carriers; verify the current rating of the insurer named on your specific policy. 10Company-reported. No financial-strength rating assigned to the broker, Testudo or an unnamed insurer. Ask for the exact issuing entity and verify the rating attached to that entity. Ask for the insurer or Lloyd’s syndicates on your quote: Founder Shield distributes the AI product and names Testudo as underwriter, while Testudo says its US entity places insurance without taking the risk. 14,16,17Company-reported. Product-specific company disclosures. Do not equate an underwriting intermediary with a risk-bearing insurer or assign this placement chain to other Founder Shield products. Regulatory approvals and ratings are not independently established. | Harper advertises a network including Progressive, Kinsale, USLI, Atlantic Casualty, James River, GEICO, AIG and Hiscox, plus 165+ underwriters; that count does not mean every insurer will quote your risk. 30,42Company-reported. Marketing logos and dated company statement. No direct appointments or live quoting access independently confirmed; no assignment of an insurer to a product. Ask for the insurer named on your quote and its current rating: an older Harper article says it uses AAA-rated carriers without naming the rating agency, companies or dated rating records. 46Not found in reviewed sources. Page dated January 21, 2025, carrier-network assertions. Rating claim withheld as a finding; no rating assigned to Harper or any displayed insurer. |
| Servicing and renewals | For a contract certificate, email Founder Shield the other party’s legal name and address, required wording and the contract insurance clause so the team can assess endorsement needs. 18Company-reported. Company-described COI process. No certificate requested and no turnaround independently measured. A request is not confirmation that all requested wording is covered. Tell Founder Shield when products, business model, offices or territories change so it can review whether your coverage needs adjustment. 19Company-reported. Changes FAQ. Does not establish automatic increases in limits, approval of new activities or protection without a policy change. Start preparing for renewal 60–90 days before expiration with updated business information and claims history; Founder Shield calls this planning guidance, not a service deadline. 1,20Company-reported. Homepage platform description and January 2026 renewal guidance. No authenticated renewal tested, automatic renewal guarantee or fixed service-level agreement found. Check minimum-earned-premium terms before binding because some insurers keep part of the premium if you cancel early; Founder Shield directs cancellation requests to support. 2Company-reported. General cancellation description; refund amounts, financed balances and effective dates depend on the contract. | Harper says it can classify payroll by employees’ duties and prepare premium-audit information for workers’ compensation; audits can change the premium, and this is not a guarantee that cost stays fixed. 39,47Company-reported. Public payroll and audit service description; not independently tested, and state employee thresholds are deliberately not generalized. If another agent refers you, confirm who will be your ongoing contact: Harper says it owns the account and handles placement, service, renewals and claims, while the referring agent has no service duties. 44,43Company-reported. Distinct advertised programs; not assumed contradictory or contractually identical. Account ownership is the program’s language, not a finding that a buyer cannot change brokers. Harper’s portal advertises policy, certificate, payment and application-status access; customers need an invitation and should ask support about features available after sign-in. 45Company-reported. Public entry page viewed and captured without authenticating, requesting an invitation or supplying contact information. Harper describes policy reviews and renewal reminders, but not a guaranteed renewal price or a commitment to shop every policy; agree on the renewal plan with your team. 46,31Company-reported. Company service statements; no customer service agreement or renewal proposal inspected. |
| Fees and compensation | Compare the full annual cost and payment schedule: Founder Shield says quotes generally cover one year and may offer full pay, carrier installments or outside financing. 22Company-reported. General billing description, not a quoted premium, guaranteed financing eligibility or a statement that borrowing costs are included in the insurance price. Ask Founder Shield for the nature and amount of commissions, fees or interest on your account; it says charges are disclosed in advance. 2Company-reported. Fees and Charges section. No account-specific compensation amount or universally applicable fee schedule obtained. Check whether group-level fees, commissions or referral payments apply to your placement; The Baldwin Group’s disclosure describes possible volume/profitability and affiliate compensation but does not say each applies to Founder Shield. 23Company-reported. Group-wide disclosure, not account-specific remuneration. Client fees can be in lieu of or additional to retail commissions. No inferred misconduct or automatic financial conflict outcome. | A licensed referral agent may receive 50% of Harper’s commission 60 days after settlement, according to Harper Partners; this is a share of commission, not a discount on your premium. 44Company-reported. Current licensed-agent referral program only. Illustrative dollar amounts not treated as fee quotes; cancellation/nonpayment clawbacks apply. No implication that Spot participates. Get premium, taxes, fees and financing charges itemized because reviewed Harper pages do not disclose buyer fees or account-specific commission rates; a free partner signup does not mean insurance is fee-free. 44,46,38,31Not publicly disclosed. Reviewed referral terms, pricing-transparency article, GL cost FAQ and messaging terms. No hidden fees is marketing, not a zero-fee promise; SMS cost statement applies only to messages. |
