Incumbent Cyber and Technology E&O
A technology firm with a standalone cyber policy and a new enterprise customer asking for technology E&O as well as higher limits faces two products that are not interchangeable. Coverdash separately markets the two lines and says some Tech E&O policies include cyber while others do not. Embroker offers a combined Tech E&O/cyber program with a published technology-business appetite. First establish whether the incumbent policy insures technology-service liability; adding a larger cyber limit does not by itself answer the new requirement. 17 22 38
Embroker’s broker program targets private, for-profit technology companies below $300 million in revenue, requires multifactor authentication above $5 million in revenue and excludes crypto, blockchain and cannabis businesses. Those inputs need to be checked before planning around the program. Coverdash’s general product page leaves insurer-specific eligibility to the offered placement, so request that insurer’s requirements with the quote. Neither company’s technology positioning guarantees the particular business will be accepted. 38 17 2
Higher Limits and Underlying Policy Compatibility
Technology firms with at least $1 million of underlying Tech E&O can ask Embroker Access about up to $5 million excess; cyber-only underlying policies do not qualify. 40Company-reported. Access excess program, private for-profit businesses below $300 million revenue; no claim that all carrier forms qualify.
That rule changes the next step for the firm. Its cyber-only incumbent policy cannot be assumed eligible for Embroker’s excess product; the broker needs the underlying technology coverage and limit information first. Embroker’s retail FAQ also says its excess cannot sit above an Embroker primary policy. Choosing an Embroker primary and adding Embroker excess are therefore not automatically successive steps in one purchase. 40 39
Coverdash markets umbrella and excess products, but those catalogue labels do not establish a compatible excess technology layer either. Ask each advisor to produce a schedule of the underlying and excess insurer, attachment point—the amount of insurance below the excess layer—and any differences in coverage. Embroker’s published primary-application and quote requirements provide a concrete submission list; the final insurer must accept the actual forms. 3 2 40
If the customer also requires intellectual-property protection, Embroker’s retail exclusions and Access software-code infringement feature need reconciliation in the proposal. Coverdash’s Tech E&O description likewise cannot settle the scope of a particular insurer’s IP wording. Request the relevant endorsement or exclusion before telling procurement that a larger liability limit resolves the issue. 39 38 17
Management Coverage Components
A funding round can add directors and officers, employment practices or fiduciary requirements alongside the customer contract. Coverdash describes management liability with D&O at its core and optional employment, fiduciary and crime components. Embroker’s Management Insurance Suite (EMIS) combines selectable D&O, employment practices and fiduciary coverages in one application, with Tech E&O/cyber for eligible technology businesses. Ask for the selected components, not just a management-package price. 18 36
Embroker names Everspan for EMIS; another program can use another insurer. Coverdash’s multi-carrier service similarly requires an insurer-by-policy schedule. One application or one dashboard does not imply one insurance contract, identical exclusions or a common limit across every line. 36 41 2
Broker Appointment and Future Access
Both companies’ direct brokerage terms call for a broker- or agent-of-record appointment and exclusivity for the covered services unless otherwise agreed. Embroker Access introduces a separate route through an appointed outside broker. Before transferring the account, identify which policies the appointment covers and whether the intended advisor can service and renew the proposed proprietary program. 2 29 37
Embroker says leaving its brokerage removes account-based certificate and policy-change functions, and a replacement broker outside Access may be unable to renew proprietary policies. Coverdash documents policy service and certificate tools through its account but does not establish the same transfer consequences. Ask for the actual handover plan rather than assuming a common digital interface creates identical portability. Losing a service function is not the same as the existing policy automatically canceling. 31 11 13
Renewal Work for the Finance Team
Coverdash’s automatic-renewal authorization applies where it facilitates billing and permits a premium increase up to 20% without renewed consent if material coverage terms do not change. Larger increases or material changes need renewed consent. That is an approval threshold, not a price ceiling, and financed policies can continue with new finance documentation. A team requiring approval of every renewal should arrange and track its opt-out. 6
Embroker describes insurer-dependent renewals that may require fresh underwriting and acceptance. For existing legacy management products, its EMIS announcement permits continued legacy renewals but requires a new-business application to switch. Compare continuity and earlier-work terms before treating the newer suite as a routine renewal. Neither a legacy renewal nor a new suite should be assumed to preserve a separately arranged excess layer without checking it. 31 36 40
Fees and Incident Contacts
Coverdash’s per-policy Technology Access Fee is fully earned and nonrefundable, and other commissions or negotiated fees can apply. Embroker’s software is free, while brokerage services can earn commissions and negotiated client fees. Both describe payment or financing costs separately. Request a total for the proposed primary, excess and management policies, including costs that remain if one placement is canceled. 5 12 30 29
Coverdash offers claim-start assistance through its account. Embroker directs active cyber events to the policy hotline and other claims to insurer instructions. Store those instructions for every layer outside the platform, particularly before a broker transfer. A broker’s help reporting an incident does not determine the insurer’s coverage decision. 14 46 29
What Should You Confirm in Coverdash and Embroker Quotes?
- Underlying forms and compatibility: Is the incumbent cyber-only or Tech E&O, which excess program accepts it, and what is the attachment point? 40 17
- Contract wording: Identify the selected management components and exact IP provisions rather than supplying only product names and limits. 18 36 38
- Broker continuity: Record the scope of the appointment, Access eligibility and certificate/renewal responsibilities after any transfer. 2 31
- Renewal and total cost: Show the approval rule, any new-business application, policy fees and separate financing terms for each layer. 6 5 36
Coverdash vs Embroker Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Coverdash | Embroker |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Small businesses, startups and e-commerce sellers can compare quotes and buy policies online or through a partner’s embedded service; Coverdash is the broker, not the insurer. 4,8,2Company-reported. Current business model and intended customers; company-described functions, not an observed completed purchase. | Funded startups, technology firms, law firms and other professional-services businesses can apply online or get broker help buying and managing coverage through Embroker. 28,29,31Company-reported. Current public customer positioning and documented distribution channels; no claim that every applicant is eligible. |
| Application process | Have your business name, address, industry, revenue and employee count ready for Coverdash’s online quote flow, which starts with email and supports comparison and purchase; same-day coverage is a company claim for most policies. 10,4Company-reported. Only initial public interface observed; no personal information, form submission, account creation or bind. Timing is company-reported and not tested. Confirm the effective date and written bind confirmation before relying on coverage: Coverdash says payment follows binding, but its terms allow pre-bind collection and later insurer rejection or repricing. 4,2Conflicting sources. FAQ Is there any cost or obligation to get a quote? versus terms section 13. Payment and binding sequence unresolved for particular products; legal conditions are presented explicitly rather than silently choosing the marketing description. Using Coverdash’s brokerage service may require appointing it as your broker of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2Company-reported. Section 2. This records the contractual wording, not a legal opinion about enforceability or a prohibition on researching other providers. | Embroker provides an online quote entry; the reviewed observation establishes the entry point, not the fields collected. 53Company-reported. Read-only observation of the public quote entry at https://app.embroker.com/signup on 15 September 2026; no form submitted or account created. An online account alone does not appoint Embroker as your broker; using its brokerage requires a broker-of-record appointment and usually exclusive work with Embroker for those services. 29Company-reported. Terms §2A; distinction between software access and brokerage engagement, not an interpretation of enforceability. An application may need more underwriting details or be declined, and a quote alone does not start coverage. 29Company-reported. Terms §13. No quote or binding transaction performed. |
| Access to insurers | You may be able to compare insurers including Chubb, Travelers, Hiscox and Nationwide; Coverdash advertises 40+ carriers but does not promise every applicant will get the whole panel. 1,8Company-reported. Company-reported panel scale. The logo strip also includes insurance intermediaries, so it is not treated as a count of independently verified risk-bearing legal entities. No financial-strength ratings inferred. Coverdash has a documented relationship with Nationwide, whose agent directory lists Coverdash Insurance Services; that listing does not identify the insurer for your quote. 15Verified. Directly inspected carrier-owned directory. This verifies the published agency relationship only, not every appointment, state, product, rating or proposed underwriting entity. | Check each policy’s insurer: Embroker names Everspan for EMIS and excess Tech E&O/Cyber, and Everest National for lawyers’ liability; these do not establish one carrier for all products. 36,40,41,42Company-reported. Current program marketing and LPL specimen; financial-strength ratings and admission status are not independently established, so no rating is assigned here. |
| Servicing and renewals | The Coverdash account can resume applications, show policies and billing, download certificates and contact an account manager; customers can also use it to request changes or cancellation. 11,4Company-reported. Public product description and service documentation; authenticated functions were not tested. Editing an account profile is not assumed to endorse a policy. You can download some certificate PDFs through Coverdash’s account, select multiple policies or use an e-commerce template; agent help may take up to two business days. 13Company-reported. Article dated 18 July 2024. Self-service speed and assisted turnaround are company-described, not measured; certificate generation does not amend underlying coverage. If Coverdash handles payment, your policy may renew automatically with up to a 20% premium increase when coverage terms do not materially change; larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. 6Company-reported. Renewal Pricing Conditions; threshold is relative to expiring term, not an annual price guarantee or maximum possible premium. You can opt out or request cancellation through the dashboard, but processing takes time and the insurer decides renewal; renewal paperwork may include a new finance agreement. 6Company-reported. Renewal Documentation, Right to Opt Out or Cancel and No Guarantee. Full-pay renewals remain full-pay; financed renewals remain financed per Payment section. No tested renewal workflow. | Existing policyholders may renew legacy management products, but new customers use EMIS; switching requires a new application, according to Embroker. 36Company-reported. Launch announcement’s stated transition rules as of research date; not a renewal guarantee. Broker-of-record clients can download policies and certificates from Embroker’s account; custom certificate wording may require a policy endorsement. 31Company-reported. FAQ Other insurance services; payment/down-payment conditions apply to first-time certificate access. Not independently tested in an authenticated account. Check your renewal deadline: some Embroker policies renew through the insurer, while others require a fresh application and underwriting; the effective date on the new policy controls when protection starts. 31Company-reported. FAQ Renewals. No automatic-renewal promise across all products and no tested service response time. Before switching brokers, check access to certificates, policy changes and renewal of proprietary products; Embroker says those account functions may end when its brokerage relationship ends. 31Company-reported. FAQ Engaging Embroker, What happens if I leave Embroker in the future? Not a finding that existing insurance cancels automatically on a broker change. |
| Fees and compensation | Include Coverdash’s Technology Access Fee in the total price: it applies to each purchased policy, is described as earned and nonrefundable, and has no published amount. 5Company-reported. Technology Access Fee paragraph. The same page calls software use free; free software is not a fee-free insurance purchase. Ask how your quote is compensated because Coverdash may receive insurer or payment commissions, performance-related or supplemental pay, client fees, affinity-referral and administrative-service income. 5Company-reported. No universal commission rate or client-fee amount disclosed. No inference that every compensation category applies to every customer. If you finance the premium, Coverdash identifies Ascend as its payment and finance partner; verify the lender, interest and fees in the payment agreement. 12,6Company-reported. Help article dated 17 January 2023, re-accessed 15 September 2026; current renewal agreement also explicitly discusses premium financing but does not name Ascend. Relationship not independently confirmed with Ascend. | Ask whether your quote includes commissions, contingent or supplemental compensation, or client fees; Embroker says its software is free but insurance services may generate these payments, agreed before binding. 30Company-reported. Compensation disclosure; no policy-specific rate or amount established. Free software does not mean free insurance or zero distribution compensation. Get payment-processing and finance costs separately from broker compensation because processors and premium-finance lenders may charge their own fees. 29Company-reported. Terms §§2A and 22; no specific financing offer reviewed. |
