Introduction to the Coterie Insurance vs Vouch Comparison
A software company whose customer contract specifies cyber or technology E&O should compare Vouch’s review and insurer options with a Coterie agent’s proposal. Choose Coterie if you need a small-business package; choose Vouch if you need technology coverage comparisons and contract review. 2 6 25 31 42

Coterie’s BBB complaint record is a concern; its single Trustpilot review is too small a sample to offset that. Ask how complaints and service problems are resolved.[1][5][6]

Professional Liability, Cyber Coverage and Contract Review
A consultancy that wins a customer using its software may be asked for technology errors and omissions (E&O) and cyber insurance. Coterie’s miscellaneous professional liability guide lists eligible professions; its cyber product is an endorsement to an underlying policy. Vouch lists technology E&O and cyber among the policies it can arrange. Ask the advisors to map the actual services and data responsibilities to the offered forms rather than assuming an existing professional-liability policy or cyber add-on answers the entire request. 14 15 30
Vouch’s contract-review service explicitly covers customer agreements as well as leases and funding arrangements. That gives the buyer a defined task to request: explain each insurance clause, identify what the present policies satisfy and obtain proposals for the remaining requirements. Coterie directs coverage questions to the agent and provides change-request tools; that agent may also offer contract help or additional placements. The service distinction is Vouch’s documented review process, not evidence that a Coterie agent cannot advise on the contract. 42 10 6
Carrier Options, Program Modules and Prior Work
Vouch says it presents carrier options together and explains differences in exclusions, endorsements and price. Request those differences in the proposal, including which insurer accepted the software activities. The service does not promise a fixed number of quotes or a search of every insurer. Coterie’s program guide provides a more defined starting point, while acceptance still depends on the activity and underwriting. 31 14 8
Corix is one documented program relationship relevant to Vouch, but its materials must be read at product level. A public Corix Cyber and E&O application allows separate selections for cyber, E&O and media liability and warns that defense costs reduce the available limit unless endorsed otherwise. If that program appears in the proposal, ask which selections and defense-cost terms apply; do not project them onto every policy Vouch brokers. 38 31
The same application describes claims-made liability, as does Coterie’s professional-liability guide. If replacing the consultancy’s existing coverage, compare the earlier-work date, when a claim must be made and reported, and any reporting extension. The new customer contract does not make the firm’s prior consulting work disappear. Adding a technology policy and replacing the old professional policy are separate decisions requiring a continuity review. 38 14
Brokers, Program Administrators and Issuing Insurers
Coterie’s terms assign policy issuance to carrier partners. Vouch’s current disclosure names Vouch Specialty Insurance Services as its broker. Older Vouch/Corix names should not be used to assume that Vouch itself underwrites the new policy: Hiscox’s acquisition materials distinguish the Corix transaction from the continuing independent Vouch brokerage. Ask for the producer, program administrator and insurer separately. 8 25 33 34
For the customer’s procurement review, the insurer on the declarations and the actual form matter more than the platform logo. The Corix application names United Specialty Insurance Company for that program; it is not a carrier schedule for all Vouch placements. Likewise, Coterie’s investor relationships do not identify the insurer on a particular policy. 38 8 19
Certificates, Endorsements and Renewals
Both offer certificate-related tools, but a certificate summarizes insurance and does not itself add the protection a customer requested. Vouch’s certificate guidance distinguishes the certificate holder from an additional insured; Coterie separates policy-change requests from document access. Ask whether the required endorsement has been issued before treating a generated certificate as completion of the contract review. 44 43 10
Vouch describes coordinating renewal cycles across carriers; Coterie allows automatic renewal where applicable. If the firm retains its Coterie premises policy while adding technology coverage, give one advisor responsibility for checking both dates and for updating the software-service description. Coordinated service is useful, but neither a broker review nor automatic billing guarantees renewal on unchanged terms. 31 45 8
Fees, Financing and Claims Contacts
Vouch discloses insurer commissions, possible performance-based compensation, payment transaction charges and financing. Its complimentary coverage review is a specific service offer, not a statement that the entire placement is free. Coterie discloses policy, installment and possible risk-program charges. Compare the cost of retaining, supplementing or replacing the current program, with payment method and financing shown separately. 25 41 8
Vouch advertises claims advocacy at no cost to clients, including help communicating with insurers. Coterie provides claims intake and a cyber-specific response route. If a software incident could implicate several policies, record each insurer’s notice instructions and the person coordinating the reports. Advocacy and incident assistance describe services; they do not establish coverage or measured settlement performance. 46 47 11
What Should You Confirm in Coterie Insurance and Vouch Quotes?
- Services and requirements: Which offered forms cover the actual software work, and which clauses require additional limits or endorsements? 14 42
- Option comparison: Identify each insurer, selected module, defense-cost treatment and exclusion that differs between proposals. 31 38
- Earlier work: What happens to prior consulting projects if the professional-liability policy is replaced? Request the dates and reporting provisions side by side. 14 38
- Completion and continuity: Obtain binding confirmation and required endorsements, then assign certificate, renewal and incident-notice responsibilities across retained and new policies. 32 44 10
Coterie Insurance vs Vouch Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Coterie Insurance | Vouch |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | New, home-based and other small or micro businesses can request Coterie quotes if their industry, location and risk meet underwriting appetite. 1,5,6Company-reported. Company-described customer focus; no claim that every small business is eligible. | Vouch is a business insurance broker and risk advisor for growing companies. Its customers include startups and established businesses in technology, healthcare and life sciences, professional services, and financial services. Buyers can start an application online and work with advisors to arrange coverage. 24,29,30Company-reported. Current website positioning, not verified customer counts or eligibility for every business. |
| Coverage lines | Small businesses can compare a BOP, standalone general liability or miscellaneous professional liability; a BOP combines liability and property while the other lines are separate. 2,4,3,14Company-reported. Current direct product pages and December 2025 product guides reviewed; optional endorsements are recorded separately rather than treated as standalone lines. Coterie’s BOP guide lists up to $10 million revenue and 50 employees, reduced to $5 million and 15 for contractors, plus property limits up to $1 million for buildings and $500,000 for business property. State, industry and quote affect availability and limits. 13,8Company-reported. December 2025 agent brochure; marketing summary, not policy wording or an eligibility guarantee. You can add some optional protections, including cyber, workplace violence, EPL, restaurant and liquor, contractors equipment, hired/non-owned auto liability, equipment breakdown and drone liability; these are endorsements, not separate standalone policies. 12,13,15,16Company-reported. April 2026 endorsement directory and December 2025 BOP guide; selection depends on base product, business class, state and underwriting. Service firms considering Coterie MPL should check the claims-made reporting window: the guide includes a 60-day extended reporting period and offers longer periods for purchase, while retroactive coverage and limits depend on terms and eligibility. 14,8Company-reported. December 2025 MPL guide; an actual proposal and policy control coverage. If you need workers’ compensation or commercial auto, look elsewhere: Coterie says it does not write those policies. Its hired/non-owned auto endorsement is liability protection, not physical-damage auto insurance. 11,13Company-reported. Current claims FAQ and BOP guide; does not address products another agent or partner may place outside Coterie. | Vouch lists technology errors and omissions, cyber liability, directors and officers, general liability, workers’ compensation, employment practices liability, key person, crime, product liability and umbrella coverage for technology companies. The list describes options, not a package that automatically includes every line. 30Company-reported. Current Core coverages for Technology list. No limits, insuring agreements or class/state eligibility inferred from labels. A public Corix Cyber and E&O application names United Specialty Insurance Company and offers selectable cyber, errors and omissions, and media liability coverage. Its first page describes claims-made liability coverage and says defense costs reduce the available limit unless the policy is endorsed otherwise. 38Company-reported. Application CET 10–0054 03 25, page 1 of 10. Not a specimen insurance contract or evidence of terms on all Vouch placements. Claims-made notice and reporting conditions require full wording. Corix’s other documented programs include management liability with directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary options, and a commercial package with general liability, property, hired and non-owned auto, and employee benefits liability options. 39,40Company-reported. Corix product summaries; distribution relationship does not guarantee Vouch access to every module for every risk. The reviewed Vouch pages and Corix materials did not establish a complete current policy form, endorsement set or insurer-by-product schedule for a new Vouch buyer. Ask for those documents with the proposal, especially when a quoted policy comes from a different insurer or program. 26,31,37,39,40,38,50Not found in reviewed sources. Reviewed current Vouch legal/technology/carrier pages; Corix product pages, linked June 2025 product guides and cyber and management applications. Guides/applications are not complete policy forms. Not a finding that documents cannot be obtained. Corix’s cyber/E&O page describes system-failure business interruption and a form combining professional and technology E&O. It also warns that social engineering, AI activities and intellectual-property disputes can have conditions, sublimits or exclusions. 37Company-reported. Corix product-page highlights and qualification paragraphs; not complete policy wording or evidence of a benefit in every Vouch proposal. Corix’s management liability page describes an option to use defense counsel outside its panel, subject to conditions such as sharing costs. Crisis-management expenses have sublimits, and pre-claim assistance is an optional extension with its own terms. 39Company-reported. Corix product-page highlights and qualification paragraphs; no numeric sublimit or eligibility assumed. |
| Application process | A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2Company-reported. Company-described standard agent workflow; does not cover referrals, manual underwriting exceptions or every partner integration. Eligible standard risks may get a quote in under two minutes, according to Coterie, but a quote is not coverage until eligibility is confirmed, underwriting approves it and the policy is issued. 6,8Company-reported. Marketing speed statement and controlling website terms; no independent timing test was performed. | Vouch’s public application starts with your legal business name, website, business address and location type, followed by your role and contact details. There is a separate sign-in path for an existing application or policy. 29Company-reported. Chrome observation of public first screen only. No personal or business data entered, account created, consent accepted or application submitted. Later steps not tested. Vouch says its platform presents carrier options together, with differences in coverage, exclusions, endorsements and pricing explained by advisors. The reviewed pages do not promise a fixed number of quotes or a search of every insurer. 31Company-reported. Company-described authenticated comparison experience; not tested. This is curated brokerage access, not proof of whole-market coverage. Vouch says many technology companies can arrange coverage within days, with smaller programs sometimes completed in minutes. Those are company timing claims. Its buying guide says coverage requires binding confirmation and the effective date, with underwriting and payment conditions satisfied. 30,32Company-reported. Technology FAQ and June 2026 educational binding guide; no actual application or bind completed. No guaranteed turnaround adopted. |
| Servicing and renewals | Policyholders can manage documents, certificates, policy changes and claim reports online; use your agent or broker for coverage questions. Coterie also provides sample forms to help you review proposed terms. 10,8Company-reported. Public policyholder resources; tool availability and authority to change coverage can depend on the policy and agent relationship. Businesses with multiple locations should ask about separate policies because Coterie’s FAQ says each location needs its own policy. 10Company-reported. General policyholder FAQ as of September 15, 2026; confirm how mailing, temporary, project and additional locations are treated in the proposed form. Set renewal preferences before the next term: most Coterie policies are 12 months and may renew automatically, with charges using the saved payment method unless the policy says otherwise. 8Company-reported. Website terms effective December 16, 2025; the proposed policy, renewal notice and applicable state law control. | Vouch offers a complimentary coverage review that it describes as identifying gaps and comparing a program with industry peers. It also offers reviews of insurance requirements in leases, customer agreements and funding arrangements. 41,42Company-reported. Service descriptions; no independent proof of completeness, savings or satisfaction of a specific contract. Vouch says customers can request certificates of insurance through their account and include a third party in the request. A certificate summarizes insurance; the policy and any required endorsements determine that third party’s actual coverage. 43,44Company-reported. Published COI workflow and distinction between holder and additional insured. Account access and turnaround not tested. Vouch says it coordinates documentation, communication and renewal cycles across carriers. Its renewal guide asks buyers to prepare updated financials, claims history and business changes, starting 30–60 days before renewal. That is preparation guidance, not a guaranteed service timetable or automatic renewal commitment. 31,45Company-reported. Carrier-options service description and 30 July 2025 educational guide. Exact renewal contact cadence and renewal terms not disclosed in these sources. |
| Fees and compensation | Include Coterie’s fees in your total-cost comparison: terms list a variable one-time new/renewal policy fee, $7 installment fee, up to $10 late fee and up to $35 insufficient-funds fee; amounts vary by state and line and some are nonrefundable. 8Company-reported. Website fee terms effective December 16, 2025; not every fee applies to every policy or state. Ask whether a Coterie policy includes a Manage My Risk Program fee; it is earned when paid and nonrefundable after midterm cancellation, but its amount is not published. 8Company-reported. Manage My Risk Program terms effective December 16, 2025; applicability and the quoted fee require account-specific disclosure. Ask whether your agent receives commission or other compensation because Coterie says it may pay commissions through a third-party processor; public sources do not state the rate for your policy. 9,8Company-reported. Public privacy and platform terms; no producer agreement or account-specific compensation disclosure was reviewed. | Vouch Specialty earns commissions on insurance sales and may also receive compensation based on the performance of the products sold. Its disclosure invites questions about compensation on a specific proposal or placement; it does not publish a commission percentage. 25Company-reported. 6 August 2025 disclosure. No zero-fee, fiduciary independence or whole-market claim inferred from independent broker terminology. Vouch may pass through credit-card, debit-card or ACH transaction fees where permitted. Its disclosure lists wire and check as alternatives and says premium financing may be offered through Slash Eureka, Inc., doing business as Ascend, or an affiliate. 25Company-reported. Published payment and finance disclosure, not a verified legal entitlement to charge in any state. No fee schedule, finance APR, total finance cost or individual quote reviewed. |
| Claims assistance | You can report standard or surplus-lines claims online and standard claims by phone; have your policy number, named insured, loss date, event details and insurer ready for assignment to a claims representative. 11,8Company-reported. Current public claims intake; reporting through Coterie does not establish coverage or identify the party ultimately paying a covered claim. Plan for several days before Coterie contacts you after online claim notice: one page says around two business days, another says three to five, and neither promises a settlement timeline. 10,11Conflicting sources. Two current company service pages reviewed September 15, 2026; response time is not claim-resolution time. Cyber and workplace-violence reports start with Coterie before a specialty partner may investigate or respond; this process description does not establish that the event is covered. 11,15,16,8Company-reported. Cyber and workplace-violence endorsement claims support; policy wording, limits and partner duties control. | Vouch advertises claims advocacy at no cost to its clients, with a dedicated advocate and help communicating with insurers. It describes assisting with reporting, documentation and follow-up. The issuing insurer decides coverage and pays covered claims. 46,47Company-reported. Service/claims-role descriptions, not independently observed performance or a guarantee of claim acceptance. No implication of free legal representation. Vouch’s help center links to a claim request form asking about the incident, its location, estimated loss and supporting documents. Your policy’s notice instructions remain important: confirm the correct recipient, deadline and any separate cyber incident-response contact. 48,49,47Company-reported. Form retrieved through web text; browser screenshot blocked by security challenge. No submission, loss report or receipt tested. Policy-specific notice requirements not established by availability of broker form. |
