Marsh vs Resilience: How Do They Compare for Business Insurance?

Marsh advises on technology and data-center programs; Resilience offers cyber and technology E&O with security services and lists data centers in its appetite.

Introduction to the Marsh vs Resilience Comparison

A data-center operator should compare property and business-interruption needs alongside cyber response, since the two proposals may cover different parts of the risk. Marsh documents data-center program advice; Resilience lists data centers in its technology appetite and offers security services. 4 36 Choose Marsh to coordinate infrastructure coverage; choose Resilience for cyber and security services.

Buyer Takeaways for Marsh vs Resilience

Marsh Buyer Takeaways

  • Marsh helps companies across industries buy insurance and manage risk, with technology specialists and a U.S./Canada middle-market path through Marsh McLennan Agency. 1,3,18,20Company-reported. Company-reported segmentation and industry marketing. Fortune 500 and revenue statistics on Marsh sites are not used here as independently verified. A middle-market MMA path is not proof that every early-stage Bay Area company will be accepted.
  • Marsh places cyber coverage and markets large digital-infrastructure property programs; MMA also brokers executive, property, casualty and benefits coverage. 8,24,4,5,3Company-reported. Direct practice and product pages. Technology-page FAQs about software BOP, fidelity or commercial auto were not used as offering proof. Stratus capacity is company-stated potential access, not a bound limit for a named insured.

Resilience Buyer Takeaways

  • Technology companies can seek E&O coverage for software, hardware and technology services. 36Company-reported. Technology-specific professional liability; not general professional E&O or a guarantee of offered limits.
  • Resilience helps prioritize financial cyber risks and track exposure across entities. 40,41Company-reported. Current named cybersecurity products; outcomes not independently established.

Key Differences Between Marsh and Resilience

Keep Property Capacity Out of the Cyber Comparison

Marsh’s Stratus exchange markets operational property capacity for digital infrastructure. Its launch description covers property capacity only, not an equivalent cyber capacity offering. Resilience’s advertised cyber limits belong to a different coverage discussion. A large property placement number cannot be compared with a cyber policy maximum as a measure of overall protection. 5 35

Marsh’s data-center practice also describes equipment breakdown, business interruption and technology E&O. Ask the adviser to distinguish a physical interruption from a cyber-triggered outage in the proposed forms, including supplier dependencies. Resilience’s security and cyber descriptions can inform that layer, but do not complete the physical property analysis. 4 35 40

Identify the Broking Segment and Engagement

Marsh’s US guide distinguishes core broking, MMA and other channels. Those service paths should not be collapsed into one startup onboarding promise. Ask which team accepts the account and whether the proposed scope includes marketing a Resilience option; neither record establishes that account-specific access. 18 20 37

The Marsh record also preserves inconsistent Inc./LLC entity names in public disclosures. Obtain the contracting producer and current California authority in the engagement. Resilience’s Ocrea and Homeland disclosure identifies US roles but leaves the product’s California route to be confirmed. 17 19 34

Advocacy and Compensation Follow the Actual Arrangement

Marsh describes cyber claims advocacy, including preparing proof of loss with forensic accountants. Resilience describes incident coordination and a dedicated claims manager. If both participate, allocate the technical response, loss quantification and coverage-dispute work before a loss. Marsh does not pay claims itself, and neither service guarantees a recovery. 9 38

Marsh’s compensation rules differ between core US broking and MMA, including contingent compensation. Resilience’s reviewed pages do not disclose a standard fee scale. Request the account-specific broking agreement and separate insurance/security costs instead of applying a group-wide compensation label. 18 42

What Should You Confirm in Marsh and Resilience Quotes?

Ask for a lender-requirement coverage map, the actual property and cyber issuers, the engaged Marsh segment and a written scope for claims work. Price brokerage, specialty placement and technical services separately. Confirm any Resilience access and California placement basis before treating the two services as an available combined solution. 4 18 34

Marsh vs Resilience Services Compared

What each provider documents about the services you may need

CriteriaMarshResilience
Business role

Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 18,17,2Company-reported. US client-compensation and transparency disclosures. Affinity/Amazon administrator language is a separate program role and is not treated as the default retail relationship.

Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 18,17,19,20,1,31Conflicting sources. Unresolved Inc. versus LLC naming. Affinity’s Marsh USA LLC license table is company-reported as of 8 March 2024 and is not a CDI live lookup. Brand unification in January 2026 is described as a brand change, not a change in business structure.

Resilience combines cyber and technology E&O insurance with cybersecurity risk-management services for businesses. 33,35,36Company-reported. Brand-level offering; not a statement that the brand is the risk-bearing insurer.

Confirm who will place the policy in California: Resilience names Ocrea Risk Services, LLC dba Resilience Cyber Insurance Solutions and NPN 19169260 as US distributor, but this disclosure is not independent license verification. 34Company-reported. US distribution entity; regulator license lookup not completed.

Customer focus

Marsh describes itself as a global insurance broker and risk advisor. Its homepage says it advises clients in 130 countries across industries that include technology. US broking is organized in segments: Risk Management (including large, complex programs), Corporate (midsize domestic firms), Marsh McLennan Agency (middle-market companies in the United States and Canada), and Affinity programs. The Technology Practice is the industry team that markets data-center, fintech and digital-infrastructure work. Public pages do not publish a minimum premium, employee count or California-startup eligibility rule. 1,3,18,20Company-reported. Company-reported segmentation and industry marketing. Fortune 500 and revenue statistics on Marsh sites are not used here as independently verified. A middle-market MMA path is not proof that every early-stage Bay Area company will be accepted.

Resilience lists technology E&O for businesses with $25 million–$10 billion revenue in software, AI, hardware, services, data centers and telecom; smaller startups should ask whether an exception is possible. 36Company-reported. Published US primary and excess technology E&O appetite; not a minimum established for every cyber product.

Access to insurers

Marsh and MMA describe access to multiple insurers rather than a single issuing carrier for all business. MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers. Stratus is a prior-submit exchange in which participating insurers evaluate each risk individually; the page does not name those insurers. Marsh’s compensation and transparency pages say Marsh or affiliates may receive insurer consulting compensation and may own equity interests in certain insurers or reinsurers, with a list on the transparency site. Victor, an affiliated MGU and wholesale broker, is described as accessing markets retail Marsh US cannot offer directly; that path is documented for some programs and is not assumed for every placement. Ask for the issuing insurer, surplus-lines status and proposed forms on the quote. 23,5,17,18,19Not publicly disclosed. No verified carrier panel, ratings or admitted-status schedule. Amazon/Affinity producer language is program-specific.

Ask which insurer will issue your California policy: Resilience names Homeland Insurance Company of New York or Delaware but not which one applies to a specific quote. 34Company-reported. Company-reported US insurer disclosure; no binder or California policy form reviewed.

Fees and compensation

Marsh’s US compensation guide says it may be paid by insurer retail commissions, client fees (often in a written Client Service Agreement, sometimes crediting commissions), wholesale commissions, insurer consulting compensation, supplemental commissions, compensation for facilities or other insurer arrangements, interest on premium accounts, and other benefits. Marsh says it does not accept contingent commissions on domestic placements for US clients in core broking operations, except for employee health and benefits or when acting as managing general agent or underwriting manager; Marsh McLennan Agency does accept contingent commissions. Standard public premium ranges or a startup fee schedule were not found. Request an account-specific disclosure of commissions, fees, contingent or supplemental amounts, premium finance charges and any affiliated-market compensation. 18,17,30Company-reported. US compensation guide as of the 2024 copyright PDF retrieved 16 September 2026. MMA’s 2026 guide landing page was reviewed; the MMA PDF itself was not fully extracted. Absence of a public price is not zero cost.

Get premium, taxes, placement costs and security charges itemized because reviewed pages do not publish standard fees or commission rates. 37,39,34,42,35,36Not publicly disclosed. Public-source review, not a finding that charges or commissions are absent.

Claims assistance

Marsh’s Claims Management service describes acting as an advisor among the business, insurer and third-party administrator: preparing, presenting and negotiating claims. Its cyber claims-advocacy page says specialists review claims, support litigation management, develop proof of loss with forensic accountants and advocate with insurers. MMA similarly describes claims advocacy as a carrier liaison on cyber matters and as part of property and casualty service. These are descriptions of assistance. They do not establish that Marsh pays claims, that a claim will be covered, or that recovery amounts cited in marketing were independently checked. 10,9,24,27Company-reported. Company-reported advocacy. The cyber page’s “recovering billions” language is not adopted as a verified performance statistic.

Resilience says an in-house team and claims manager are available 24/7 through settlement, with privacy, forensic, recovery and crisis specialists; these service claims are not independently measured. 38Company-reported. Claims operating model; no response-time, acceptance-rate or recovery performance claim adopted.
