Introduction to the Corgi vs Cowbell Comparison
A software startup weighing bundled coverage against a focused cyber program should compare limits and included response services. Corgi organizes its package by company stage; Cowbell offers Prime Tech, Prime Tech Plus excess and a separate Zurich management-liability option. Choose Corgi if your funding stage shapes a broader startup package; choose Cowbell if you need cyber and technology E&O. 37 39 2

Cyber Limits, Technology E&O and Excess Layers
Consider a company that supplies hosted software and whose customer wants more protection before expanding the contract. A breach expense, an outage and a customer’s allegation that software failed to perform are different issues to put in the submission. Cowbell’s Prime Tech combines technology E&O and cyber, while Prime 100 and related standalone cyber programs follow a different scope. Corgi markets technology E&O, a Tech & AI Liability module and cyber. Compare which losses and activities each offered form addresses, rather than asking which website lists the most cyber features. 38 33 2 8
Cowbell offers separate excess cyber and excess technology E&O/cyber products. An excess policy supplies another layer above specified underlying insurance. Its “follow-form” description means it is intended to track parts of that underlying wording, not that every exclusion or reporting condition is identical. If retaining a Corgi primary policy is being considered, ask the broker whether that exact policy qualifies and obtain both forms for comparison. Cowbell’s catalogue alone does not establish compatibility with Corgi. 37 39 1
Security Services and Insurance Upgrades
Cowbell documents security connectors, risk ratings, training and resiliency services. That gives the company’s security lead something specific to evaluate alongside the finance team’s insurance quote: which integrations are supported, who receives findings and which services duplicate tools already purchased. Some offerings are complimentary, time-limited or available by subscription. A service entitlement needs duration and price, not only the phrase “risk management included.” 44 38
Corgi’s reviewed service description emphasizes adding and upgrading insurance as the company hires, raises money and signs contracts. That addresses a different operating task from Cowbell’s documented security tools. Ask Corgi what prevention services accompany the actual proposal; the different public descriptions do not establish that Corgi offers none or that Cowbell’s tools reduce this buyer’s losses. 2 44
Directors Coverage and Wholesale Distribution
Corgi includes directors and officers (D&O) coverage in its startup-package descriptions and provides a public example of the form. Cowbell’s Zurich Select Plus offering provides modular D&O, employment-practices, fiduciary and crime options through appointed Zurich E&S wholesalers. If the same procurement also covers the board, ask the retail broker how it accesses that wholesale program; cyber access alone does not establish Select Plus access. A wholesale distribution channel also does not mean the policy is non-admitted: Zurich describes Select Plus as admitted. 2 5 41
Corgi’s D&O example names Technology Risk Retention Group. Corgi says TRRG has no AM Best rating, and risk retention group (RRG) policies lack state guaranty-fund protection. Corgi also describes eligible admitted/partner alternatives. Cowbell’s products likewise need an insurer-specific check: its cyber brochures name different insurers by program, and Zurich’s collaboration does not make Zurich the insurer on every Cowbell product. If the customer specifies a rating or admitted status, put those requirements into both submissions. 1 20 33 36 41
Renewal, Incidents and Program Cost
Cowbell’s FAQ distinguishes Prime 100’s advance renewal proposal from Prime 250’s signed-application and underwriting process. An upgrade between programs can therefore change the information and lead time needed at renewal. Corgi describes dashboard changes, while renewal terms depend on the policy. Ask both who updates the company’s revenue, services and security information, particularly if a customer contract increased the required limits during the year. 42 2 1
For incident planning, Cowbell describes an around-the-clock cyber claims team and response panel. Corgi describes reporting, documentation and legal coordination, with an affiliated or third-party administrator potentially involved. Match the offered policy’s reporting instructions and approved vendors to the company’s incident plan. Availability of assistance does not establish payment quality, and the insurer remains responsible for covered obligations. 43 2 1
Cost comparison should separate premium from the services being bought. Cowbell discloses payment-method and financing charges, while its public sources do not establish every producer-compensation amount. Corgi discloses possible commissions or fees. Include any Cowbell security subscription, retained policies and excess layer in the budget; comparing an entire Corgi package with a cyber-only quote would answer the wrong question. 42 24 44 1
What Should You Confirm in Corgi and Cowbell Quotes?
- The contract and coverage map: separate technology-performance liability, cyber response and board needs, identifying the proposed Corgi coverage and exact Cowbell program. 2 38
- Primary and excess forms together: eligibility of the underlying insurer, attachment point, shared definitions, exclusions and notice requirements. Do not assume a Cowbell excess policy accepts a Corgi primary. 39 1
- A service entitlement and cost schedule: connectors, training, incident vendors, trials and paid subscriptions, plus all insurance and payment charges. 44 42 1
- A renewal and reporting plan: who updates the risk information, which application is needed, and which contacts receive a cyber incident or board claim. 42 43 1
Corgi vs Cowbell Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Corgi | Cowbell |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Technology startups can compare Corgi packages for pre-seed/seed, Series A and growth stages, or ask about a custom option. 2,3,6,15Company-reported. Company website positioning and package names; named customer stories on the customers page are testimonials, not a verified book of business. Small businesses in offices, retail, restaurants, personal services, self-storage, wholesale, community associations or rental properties may have a new Corgi option; its August 2026 filing announcement says state and product availability differ. 9Company-reported. Company-announced admitted-carrier appetite. Filing a product is not the same as confirmed availability in a given state. | Small and midsize businesses can compare Cowbell cyber options, while middle-market firms can consider broader programs; Prime 100 targets up to $100 million revenue and Prime 250/Tech up to $1 billion. 32,33,34,35,38Company-reported. Published U.S. product appetites; eligibility is subject to underwriting and product-specific class restrictions. |
| Coverage lines | Startup packages can combine general liability, D&O, Tech E&O, cyber, media, employment practices, fiduciary and hired/non-owned auto; Corgi also offers a Tech & AI Liability module. 2,8,10Company-reported. Website product labels and package descriptions. Labels are not equivalent coverage, and website summaries are not policy wording. If you need D&O, Corgi’s example shows claims-made protection for directors, officers and the company under form CORG-DO-0100, issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. The example puts defense costs inside the limit and has a $25,000 per-claim retention; your policy controls. 5Company-reported. Public product-page summary last reviewed 24 April 2026 on the page itself; illustrative limits and retentions may differ from a buyer’s policy. A package that includes property needs another insurer if its liability policy uses a risk retention group, because such groups can write business liability but not property coverage. 19,21Verified. Statutory limit on what an RRG may write. It does not by itself prove which Corgi product sits on which paper. | You can compare Cowbell’s distinct admitted Prime 100/100 Pro, non-admitted Prime 250/Prime One and follow-form excess Prime Plus programs; their revenue fit, limits, coverage and jurisdiction differ. 31,33,34,35,36,37Company-reported. Current U.S. broker-resource catalogue and product overviews. Product descriptions are illustrative and actual forms control. Cowbell advertises up to $3 million for Prime 100 Pro, up to $10 million for select Prime One risks including AI and quantum exposures, and up to $5 million excess through Prime Plus; underwriting and policy terms control. 34,36,37Company-reported. Selected differentiators in current U.S. product overviews; these are maximum advertised limits, not guaranteed buyer terms. Eligible technology firms up to $1 billion revenue can ask about non-admitted Prime Tech, combining Tech E&O and cyber with up to $5 million limits; Prime Tech Plus is a separate excess option up to $5 million. 38,39Company-reported. Current U.S. Prime Tech and Prime Tech Plus marketing overviews; product appetite and actual terms are subject to underwriting. Private companies under 250 employees and $50 million assets may consider Zurich Select Plus for D&O, EPL, fiduciary or crime; Zurich says appointed E&S wholesalers use Cowbell’s platform. 40,41Verified. Current Zurich Select Plus U.S. wholesale offering. Availability through a wholesaler does not guarantee eligibility or inclusion of all four modules. Use your issued policy to decide what is covered: Cowbell says product overviews are examples only and do not alter coverage, conditions, exclusions, availability or underwriting. 33,34,35,36,37,38,39Company-reported. Disclaimers in the current U.S. Prime 100, Prime 100 Pro, Prime 250, Prime One, Prime Plus, Prime Tech and Prime Tech Plus overviews. |
| Servicing and renewals | You can add or upgrade policies through Corgi’s dashboard as funding, hiring or contract needs change; renewal and cancellation remain subject to your policy and state rules. 2,1Company-reported. Company description of post-bind servicing and cancellation. Actual endorsement terms remain in the policy. This does not establish a specific renewal guarantee or a finding that renewals are unavailable. | Cowbell pairs cyber coverage with risk ratings, policyholder insights, security connectors, training and resiliency support; included access may be limited or trial-based, while some services require a subscription. 44,33,37Company-reported. Current U.S. resiliency-services catalogue and cyber product overviews. Eligibility, third-party terms and whether a service is bundled depend on the policy and service agreement. Ask your agent how to request changes or cancel; Cowbell directs policyholders to agents for cancellations and agents to Cowbell for endorsements. Prime 100 renewal proposals start around 60 days before expiry; Prime 250 requires a signed application and underwriting. 42Company-reported. Current public FAQ for P100 and P250; other products and individual policy terms may use different servicing and renewal procedures. |
| Fees and compensation | Ask for the commission or customer fee on your policy because Corgi Insurance Services may receive either from you or the insurer. 1Company-reported. Producer compensation disclosure. Website, self-serve, or other direct distribution is not a finding of zero commissions or fees. Specific amounts were not published in the reviewed sources. Corgi gives annual price examples of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed/seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A; your quote depends on risk, state, coverage and limits. 2,6,7Company-reported. Company-reported ranges and a marketing savings claim, not comparable quotes. They are not premiums for a defined risk, limit, retention, or policy period. “Underwrites directly” is not a finding of zero producer commissions or fees, and no public methodology for the 30 percent figure was found. | Cowbell lists several payment methods and financing for direct-billed policies; credit cards carry a disclosed 2.99% processing fee, and financing terms are shown before enrollment. 42Company-reported. Current U.S. direct-bill FAQ. Agency-billed policies use different payment routes, and policy invoices control account-specific instructions. Request your broker’s compensation disclosure and itemized premium because reviewed US sources do not publish Cowbell’s producer commissions or universal premiums. 24,42,27,32Not found in reviewed sources. Review of Cowbell's U.S. terms, FAQ, licensing page and current product overviews as of 15 September 2026; this is not a finding that compensation or other fees do not exist. |
| Claims assistance | Corgi says its claims team can help with reporting, documents, legal coordination and updates, but an affiliate or third-party administrator may handle the file; the named insurer decides coverage and payment. 1,2,12Company-reported. Company claims-handling and TPA disclosures. Offering claims administration is not a measure of claims-payment quality, and the TPA announcement does not by itself identify the administrator on a Corgi-issued policy. | Cowbell says its in-house cyber claims team and response panel are available 24/7; have your policy number, incident date, details and contact ready. The issuing insurer and policy determine coverage and payment. 43,33,36Company-reported. Cowbell's current U.S. cyber claims-services page and product overviews; company-reported service description, not an independently measured outcome. |
