A drop-forge: a heavy hammer poised above an anvil on which rests a gear-shaped billet, with a pair of tongs leaning beside it.

Will property insurance cover a machine breakdown or equipment you take to a pilot?

Not necessarily. Commercial property forms may exclude machinery breakdown, and coverage at a scheduled workshop does not establish protection during a trip. Compare equipment-breakdown and inland-marine terms with the machine and movement you need to insure.

Ask which machines, malfunction causes, and resulting losses are covered by any equipment-breakdown terms. Do not assume that coverage includes business income or temporary equipment unless the form says so.1

For pilot-site travel, ask which tools, prototypes, routes, carriers, and installation stages are covered under any inland-marine terms. Request the actual schedule and form so you can check how the quote treats your equipment.1
