Coterie Insurance vs
Kinro: How Do They Compare for Business Insurance?
Coterie is a small-business insurance program you buy through an agent, limited to BOP, general liability and professional liability; Kinro is a broker that reviews your existing policies for free and shops a wider catalogue, including workers' comp and auto.
An Overview of Coterie Insurance and Kinro
Say you run a consultancy with a Coterie policy and you're about to hire your first employees. Coterie doesn't write workers' comp, so you'll need another insurer for that anyway. Kinro lets you upload up to three current policies or renewal documents for a free review, and it lists workers' comp among the lines it shops; it also shows Coterie among the insurers it works with, though that doesn't guarantee it can quote your policy. Choose Coterie if you already have an agent and need only a BOP, general liability or professional liability policy; choose Kinro if you want one broker to review what you have and add lines Coterie doesn't sell. 11 6 27 26 33

Keeping Your Policy vs Getting It Reviewed
Coterie is a program your agent quotes and services from Coterie's own dashboard; you don't deal with Coterie directly when buying. Kinro starts from what you already have: your declarations, renewal documents or policies. That means Kinro may tell you to keep, replace or add to a Coterie policy. 6 27
A review is only useful if it shows what changes, not just the premium. For professional liability, Kinro's guide asks about prior work, claims and retroactive dates, and Coterie's professional liability is claims-made. If a replacement moves your retroactive date, work you did before that date may no longer be covered. Get the full form and endorsements, not just a declarations page, before you switch. 37 14
Workers' Comp and Office Coverage
Coterie says it doesn't write workers' comp. Kinro lists it and explains the payroll, state and job-duty details insurers ask for. If you're hiring, you need a second source either way; your current agent may also be able to place it. 11 26 36
Both offer a BOP, which bundles property and liability. Coterie's is a defined program; Kinro's intake asks for equipment, inventory and improvements so it can shop several insurers. Ask each for the insurer, location and property values behind the quote. 4 35
Who Services Your Policy
Kinro can serve you directly or work behind another agency. Its placement page splits advice, binding, billing, endorsements, certificates and renewals between the parties, so ask who you'll call for a certificate before you sign. Coterie always sits behind your agent. 32 31 6
Kinro’s September 27, 2026 terms define Kinro as Kinro, Inc. and its subsidiaries, including Kinro Insurance Services LLC; insurance is offered through that agency only where licensed. A separate written software agreement controls differences, so confirm the agreement and insurer for your placement. Confirm the producer and agreement for the placement. 29
For claims, Coterie publishes its reporting routes. Kinro's public materials don't set out a claims route, so get the insurer's instructions before you bind. 11 42
Renewals and Fees
Coterie policies can renew automatically and charge your saved payment method. Kinro says it re-shops at renewal. If you move to Kinro, set a date for the new proposals and stop the Coterie auto-renewal so you don't pay for two policies. 8 24
Coterie publishes a policy fee, a $7 installment fee and a possible risk-program fee. Kinro’s terms say it is usually paid a commission by the issuing insurer, included in the insurer-set premium. Its services are free to use unless a fee is disclosed before you agree to pay it. Ask for the commission and any proposed fee for your policy; no account-specific amount is published. 8 29 31
What Should You Confirm in Coterie Insurance and Kinro Quotes?
- Keep, replace or add: Is Kinro proposing the same Coterie program, a different insurer, or extra coverage for your new employees? 26 33
- Prior-work cover: Compare insured services, retroactive date, reporting period and endorsements on the expiring and proposed professional liability policies. 14 37
- Who does what: Which Kinro entity is your producer, and who handles certificates, changes, renewals and insurer notices? 29 32
- Total cost: Separate policy charges, broker compensation and nonrefundable amounts, and get written instructions for stopping the Coterie renewal. 8 41
Coterie Insurance vs Kinro Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Coterie Insurance | Kinro |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage lines | Small businesses can compare a BOP, standalone general liability or miscellaneous professional liability; a BOP combines liability and property while the other lines are separate. 2,4,3,14Company-reported. Current direct product pages and December 2025 product guides reviewed; optional endorsements are recorded separately rather than treated as standalone lines. Coterie’s BOP guide lists up to $10 million revenue and 50 employees, reduced to $5 million and 15 for contractors, plus property limits up to $1 million for buildings and $500,000 for business property. State, industry and quote affect availability and limits. 13,8Company-reported. December 2025 agent brochure; marketing summary, not policy wording or an eligibility guarantee. You can add some optional protections, including cyber, workplace violence, EPL, restaurant and liquor, contractors equipment, hired/non-owned auto liability, equipment breakdown and drone liability; these are endorsements, not separate standalone policies. 12,13,15,16Company-reported. April 2026 endorsement directory and December 2025 BOP guide; selection depends on base product, business class, state and underwriting. Service firms considering Coterie MPL should check the claims-made reporting window: the guide includes a 60-day extended reporting period and offers longer periods for purchase, while retroactive coverage and limits depend on terms and eligibility. 14,8Company-reported. December 2025 MPL guide; an actual proposal and policy control coverage. If you need workers’ compensation or commercial auto, look elsewhere: Coterie says it does not write those policies. Its hired/non-owned auto endorsement is liability protection, not physical-damage auto insurance. 11,13Company-reported. Current claims FAQ and BOP guide; does not address products another agent or partner may place outside Coterie. | Small businesses can shop for GL, BOP, workers’ comp, auto, trucking, property, equipment, HNOA, umbrella, professional liability, cyber and D&O; categories do not guarantee eligibility or a single package. 26Company-reported. Advertised product catalogue for U.S. businesses. No specimen contract, issuing-insurer mapping or state-specific eligibility inferred. Eligible businesses can compare a BOP combining general liability and business property; Kinro’s intake asks about premises, inventory, equipment and required limits. 35Company-reported. Company product overview, not policy wording; no finding about business interruption, catastrophe coverage or particular insurer terms. For E&O, be ready to describe your services, customers, contracts, claims and current policy; for cyber, Kinro asks about data, MFA, backups, vendor access and incidents. 37,38Company-reported. Published inputs, not a tested underwriting process or guarantee of cyber incident, funds-transfer, professional or technology coverage. Companies with investors, boards or financing conditions can consider D&O; Kinro’s guide asks about funding, ownership, board, debt and claims, and flags EPL, fiduciary and crime as related questions. 39Company-reported. Product guidance; companion lines are not automatically included. Ask for insurer-specific forms and terms before buying; reviewed guides do not name the insurer or provide specimen forms, so limits, deductibles and exclusions remain proposal details. 34,35,37,38,39Not found in reviewed sources. Scoped to cited current product pages; no claim that forms are unavailable on request or elsewhere. |
| Application process | A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2Company-reported. Company-described standard agent workflow; does not cover referrals, manual underwriting exceptions or every partner integration. Eligible standard risks may get a quote in under two minutes, according to Coterie, but a quote is not coverage until eligibility is confirmed, underwriting approves it and the policy is issued. 6,8Company-reported. Marketing speed statement and controlling website terms; no independent timing test was performed. | You can begin Kinro’s public four-step quote intake without a login by selecting your business activity; later steps, pricing and binding were not inspected. 25Company-reported. Observed initial unauthenticated interface in Chrome; no answers, personal information, uploads, account creation or submissions. Later access requirements unknown. Kinro says AI gathers business details and presents available quote options with licensed-agent help; its roughly two-minute follow-up is a company response-time claim, not a quote or binding deadline. 24Company-reported. Homepage FAQ and response claim; no interactions submitted or timing study performed. You can ask Kinro for a free review by uploading up to three policy or renewal files; its promise to find better pricing with equal or more coverage is company-reported, and no replacement quote was tested. 27Company-reported. Public upload entry screen only; no documents uploaded and no service or outcome verification. |
| Access to insurers | Check the insurer named on every Coterie policy: carrier partners issue coverage, with a separate Spinnaker Specialty route for surplus policies beginning CSE and Spinnaker Insurance Company named for eligible coastal Texas BOPs. 8,11,17Company-reported. Public carrier disclosures reviewed for the general platform, surplus-lines claim routing and the September 2026 coastal Texas BOP program; not an exhaustive carrier map. | Kinro says it works with 50+ companies and displays Progressive, GEICO, AmTrust, Pie, Coterie and NEXT, but access depends on approval and logos do not identify your issuing insurer. 24,33Company-reported. Company-reported network size and displayed brands. Direct appointments, access through intermediaries, actual market search breadth and insurer financial strength are not independently verified. |
| Servicing and renewals | Policyholders can manage documents, certificates, policy changes and claim reports online; use your agent or broker for coverage questions. Coterie also provides sample forms to help you review proposed terms. 10,8Company-reported. Public policyholder resources; tool availability and authority to change coverage can depend on the policy and agent relationship. Businesses with multiple locations should ask about separate policies because Coterie’s FAQ says each location needs its own policy. 10Company-reported. General policyholder FAQ as of September 15, 2026; confirm how mailing, temporary, project and additional locations are treated in the proposed form. Set renewal preferences before the next term: most Coterie policies are 12 months and may renew automatically, with charges using the saved payment method unless the policy says otherwise. 8Company-reported. Website terms effective December 16, 2025; the proposed policy, renewal notice and applicable state law control. | Kinro says it shops at renewal and sends text links to documents and certificates with reminders and coverage support; these are service descriptions, not turnaround guarantees. 24,28Company-reported. Retail service statements; no authenticated customer account or actual renewal inspected. Before sharing business details, note that Kinro separates service texts from marketing consent, while its privacy policy says website activity may be linked to profiles for marketing. 28,30Company-reported. Published consent and privacy terms, not an audit of data practices or consent enforcement; privacy policy effective August 10, 2026. |
| Fees and compensation | Include Coterie’s fees in your total-cost comparison: terms list a variable one-time new/renewal policy fee, $7 installment fee, up to $10 late fee and up to $35 insufficient-funds fee; amounts vary by state and line and some are nonrefundable. 8Company-reported. Website fee terms effective December 16, 2025; not every fee applies to every policy or state. Ask whether a Coterie policy includes a Manage My Risk Program fee; it is earned when paid and nonrefundable after midterm cancellation, but its amount is not published. 8Company-reported. Manage My Risk Program terms effective December 16, 2025; applicability and the quoted fee require account-specific disclosure. Ask whether your agent receives commission or other compensation because Coterie says it may pay commissions through a third-party processor; public sources do not state the rate for your policy. 9,8Company-reported. Public privacy and platform terms; no producer agreement or account-specific compensation disclosure was reviewed. | Kinro’s terms say it is usually paid a commission by the issuing insurer, included in the insurer-set premium. Its services are free to use unless a fee is disclosed before you agree to pay it. Ask for the commission and any proposed fee for your policy; the terms do not publish an account-specific amount. 29,41,31Company-reported. September 27, 2026 company terms describe buyer fees and insurer-paid commissions; no account-specific fee or commission rate is stated. Separate agency-partner economics are not retail rates. Consultants can use Kinro’s monthly benchmarks—$25–$35 GL, $50–$65 E&O and $90–$105 cyber—as rough market references, not quotes matched to an insurer, limit or deductible. 40Company-reported. One industry-page illustration, not Kinro-wide pricing or a comparable quote; underlying calculation methodology not established. |
