Premises Coverage, Cyber Endorsements and Standalone Cyber
A small consultancy that needs property and general liability for its office may later receive a client contract requiring cyber insurance. A Coterie business owner’s policy (BOP) addresses the premises-related purchase; its cyber option is an endorsement, meaning an addition to an eligible base policy. Cowbell’s Prime 100 is a standalone cyber product. Ask the agent to compare the requested cyber protection separately from the office insurance so that changing cyber protection does not inadvertently become a decision to replace the whole business package. 4 15 34
The contract’s coverage description matters more than the word “cyber.” If the consultancy develops software and the client also requires protection for failures in that work, Cowbell’s Prime Tech combines technology errors and omissions (E&O) with cyber. Coterie separately offers miscellaneous professional liability for listed service professions; its name does not establish the same technology coverage. Submit the actual work description and client requirements to both intermediaries, then compare the proposed definitions and exclusions. 39 14
Standalone coverage does not automatically mean broader protection in every respect. Prime 100’s overview distinguishes several cyber events and makes its examples subordinate to the policy. Request the cyber endorsement and standalone form together, identifying limits, smaller event-specific caps, deductibles, interruption triggers and reporting conditions. A higher headline limit cannot answer those questions. 34 15
Agents, Program Access and Issuing Insurers
Both routes involve an insurance professional: Coterie directs owners to agents, and Cowbell provides an agent directory. The agent arranging office coverage may be able to investigate a separate cyber placement, but access to one program does not establish appointment for the other. Ask who will coordinate overlapping coverage and handle a change to the business’s activities. 6 31
Coterie’s carrier partners issue its policies. Cowbell identifies carriers by program, including Palomar for Prime 100 and Chaucer for Prime One. Neither the Coterie nor Cowbell brand is enough to identify the insurer responsible for a particular proposal. Obtain a separate insurer name for the base policy and any standalone cyber policy. 8 34 37
Incident Reporting and Prevention Services
Coterie describes cyber reporting through its intake and work with Cyberscout. Cowbell describes an in-house cyber claims team and incident-response specialists. These are documented support services, not evidence that either has better settlements. Before an incident, establish which contact can authorize outside forensic or legal work and what notice the insurer requires. 11 15 44
For a business with no internal security team, prevention services also deserve a separate scope check. Cowbell’s catalogue includes training and risk tools as well as paid subscriptions and trials; Coterie’s cyber guide describes Cyberscout services. Ask what is included, when it expires and who provides it. Access to assistance is distinct from an insurance promise to reimburse an expense. 45 15
Fees, Subscriptions and Renewal Dates
If the consultancy retains the Coterie package and buys standalone cyber, keep both renewal dates and required actions visible. Coterie’s terms permit automatic renewal where applicable. Cowbell describes a proposal process for Prime 100 and a signed application with underwriting review for Prime 250. A paid property renewal therefore does not establish that the separate cyber renewal is complete. 8 43
The cost comparison should separate the incremental cyber endorsement price from the standalone premium and services. Coterie discloses policy, installment and possible risk-program charges; Cowbell discloses payment processing and financing charges, while its public sources do not disclose producer compensation. Ask for totals on the same coverage basis, including any subscriptions the consultancy would actually use. 8 43 25 45
What Should You Confirm in Coterie Insurance and Cowbell Quotes?
- The client’s requirements mapped to forms: Which Coterie endorsement or Cowbell program addresses each requirement, and does technology work need separate E&O? 15 39
- A combined coverage schedule: If both are retained, identify the insurer, limits and reporting contact for each policy and ask how potentially overlapping claims are handled. 8 34
- The response and service agreements: Which vendors require approval, which services are included, and what changes after a trial or first policy year? 15 45
- A renewal and cost worksheet: Show the cyber addition’s full cost, any standalone charges, and the action required to keep each policy in force. 8 43
Coterie Insurance vs Cowbell Services Compared
What each provider documents about the services you may need
| Criteria | Coterie Insurance | Cowbell |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage lines | Small businesses can compare a BOP, standalone general liability or miscellaneous professional liability; a BOP combines liability and property while the other lines are separate. 2,4,3,14Company-reported. Current direct product pages and December 2025 product guides reviewed; optional endorsements are recorded separately rather than treated as standalone lines. Coterie’s BOP guide lists up to $10 million revenue and 50 employees, reduced to $5 million and 15 for contractors, plus property limits up to $1 million for buildings and $500,000 for business property. State, industry and quote affect availability and limits. 13,8Company-reported. December 2025 agent brochure; marketing summary, not policy wording or an eligibility guarantee. You can add some optional protections, including cyber, workplace violence, EPL, restaurant and liquor, contractors equipment, hired/non-owned auto liability, equipment breakdown and drone liability; these are endorsements, not separate standalone policies. 12,13,15,16Company-reported. April 2026 endorsement directory and December 2025 BOP guide; selection depends on base product, business class, state and underwriting. Service firms considering Coterie MPL should check the claims-made reporting window: the guide includes a 60-day extended reporting period and offers longer periods for purchase, while retroactive coverage and limits depend on terms and eligibility. 14,8Company-reported. December 2025 MPL guide; an actual proposal and policy control coverage. If you need workers’ compensation or commercial auto, look elsewhere: Coterie says it does not write those policies. Its hired/non-owned auto endorsement is liability protection, not physical-damage auto insurance. 11,13Company-reported. Current claims FAQ and BOP guide; does not address products another agent or partner may place outside Coterie. | You can compare Cowbell’s distinct admitted Prime 100/100 Pro, non-admitted Prime 250/Prime One and follow-form excess Prime Plus programs; their revenue fit, limits, coverage and jurisdiction differ. 32,34,35,36,37,38Company-reported. Current U.S. broker-resource catalogue and product overviews. Product descriptions are illustrative and actual forms control. Cowbell advertises up to $3 million for Prime 100 Pro, up to $10 million for select Prime One risks including AI and quantum exposures, and up to $5 million excess through Prime Plus; underwriting and policy terms control. 35,37,38Company-reported. Selected differentiators in current U.S. product overviews; these are maximum advertised limits, not guaranteed buyer terms. Eligible technology firms up to $1 billion revenue can ask about non-admitted Prime Tech, combining Tech E&O and cyber with up to $5 million limits; Prime Tech Plus is a separate excess option up to $5 million. 39,40Company-reported. Current U.S. Prime Tech and Prime Tech Plus marketing overviews; product appetite and actual terms are subject to underwriting. Private companies under 250 employees and $50 million assets may consider Zurich Select Plus for D&O, EPL, fiduciary or crime; Zurich says appointed E&S wholesalers use Cowbell’s platform. 41,42Verified. Current Zurich Select Plus U.S. wholesale offering. Availability through a wholesaler does not guarantee eligibility or inclusion of all four modules. Use your issued policy to decide what is covered: Cowbell says product overviews are examples only and do not alter coverage, conditions, exclusions, availability or underwriting. 34,35,36,37,38,39,40Company-reported. Disclaimers in the current U.S. Prime 100, Prime 100 Pro, Prime 250, Prime One, Prime Plus, Prime Tech and Prime Tech Plus overviews. |
| Application process | A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2Company-reported. Company-described standard agent workflow; does not cover referrals, manual underwriting exceptions or every partner integration. Eligible standard risks may get a quote in under two minutes, according to Coterie, but a quote is not coverage until eligibility is confirmed, underwriting approves it and the policy is issued. 6,8Company-reported. Marketing speed statement and controlling website terms; no independent timing test was performed. | Buyers work through an insurance agent or broker; appointed agents use Cowbell’s platform to quote, bind and issue eligible products, and no direct-buyer quote path was documented. 31,24,32,34Company-reported. Current public U.S. buyer and broker paths. This does not establish that every listed agent can access every Cowbell product. |
| Access to insurers | Check the insurer named on every Coterie policy: carrier partners issue coverage, with a separate Spinnaker Specialty route for surplus policies beginning CSE and Spinnaker Insurance Company named for eligible coastal Texas BOPs. 8,11,17Company-reported. Public carrier disclosures reviewed for the general platform, surplus-lines claim routing and the September 2026 coastal Texas BOP program; not an exhaustive carrier map. | Ask which insurer is on your declarations: Cowbell names Palomar for Prime 100/100 Pro, Palomar and Chaucer for Prime 250, Chaucer for Prime One, and more general carrier descriptions for excess, Tech Plus and Select Plus. 34,35,36,37,38,40,41,30Company-reported. Named paper providers in the current reviewed product materials. The quote and policy must identify the actual insurer for a specific product, state and account. |
| Servicing and renewals | Policyholders can manage documents, certificates, policy changes and claim reports online; use your agent or broker for coverage questions. Coterie also provides sample forms to help you review proposed terms. 10,8Company-reported. Public policyholder resources; tool availability and authority to change coverage can depend on the policy and agent relationship. Businesses with multiple locations should ask about separate policies because Coterie’s FAQ says each location needs its own policy. 10Company-reported. General policyholder FAQ as of September 15, 2026; confirm how mailing, temporary, project and additional locations are treated in the proposed form. Set renewal preferences before the next term: most Coterie policies are 12 months and may renew automatically, with charges using the saved payment method unless the policy says otherwise. 8Company-reported. Website terms effective December 16, 2025; the proposed policy, renewal notice and applicable state law control. | Cowbell pairs cyber coverage with risk ratings, policyholder insights, security connectors, training and resiliency support; included access may be limited or trial-based, while some services require a subscription. 45,34,38Company-reported. Current U.S. resiliency-services catalogue and cyber product overviews. Eligibility, third-party terms and whether a service is bundled depend on the policy and service agreement. Ask your agent how to request changes or cancel; Cowbell directs policyholders to agents for cancellations and agents to Cowbell for endorsements. Prime 100 renewal proposals start around 60 days before expiry; Prime 250 requires a signed application and underwriting. 43Company-reported. Current public FAQ for P100 and P250; other products and individual policy terms may use different servicing and renewal procedures. |
| Fees and compensation | Include Coterie’s fees in your total-cost comparison: terms list a variable one-time new/renewal policy fee, $7 installment fee, up to $10 late fee and up to $35 insufficient-funds fee; amounts vary by state and line and some are nonrefundable. 8Company-reported. Website fee terms effective December 16, 2025; not every fee applies to every policy or state. Ask whether a Coterie policy includes a Manage My Risk Program fee; it is earned when paid and nonrefundable after midterm cancellation, but its amount is not published. 8Company-reported. Manage My Risk Program terms effective December 16, 2025; applicability and the quoted fee require account-specific disclosure. Ask whether your agent receives commission or other compensation because Coterie says it may pay commissions through a third-party processor; public sources do not state the rate for your policy. 9,8Company-reported. Public privacy and platform terms; no producer agreement or account-specific compensation disclosure was reviewed. | Cowbell lists several payment methods and financing for direct-billed policies; credit cards carry a disclosed 2.99% processing fee, and financing terms are shown before enrollment. 43Company-reported. Current U.S. direct-bill FAQ. Agency-billed policies use different payment routes, and policy invoices control account-specific instructions. Request your broker’s compensation disclosure and itemized premium because reviewed US sources do not publish Cowbell’s producer commissions or universal premiums. 25,43,28,33Not found in reviewed sources. Review of Cowbell's U.S. terms, FAQ, licensing page and current product overviews as of 15 September 2026; this is not a finding that compensation or other fees do not exist. |
| Claims assistance | You can report standard or surplus-lines claims online and standard claims by phone; have your policy number, named insured, loss date, event details and insurer ready for assignment to a claims representative. 11,8Company-reported. Current public claims intake; reporting through Coterie does not establish coverage or identify the party ultimately paying a covered claim. Plan for several days before Coterie contacts you after online claim notice: one page says around two business days, another says three to five, and neither promises a settlement timeline. 10,11Conflicting sources. Two current company service pages reviewed September 15, 2026; response time is not claim-resolution time. Cyber and workplace-violence reports start with Coterie before a specialty partner may investigate or respond; this process description does not establish that the event is covered. 11,15,16,8Company-reported. Cyber and workplace-violence endorsement claims support; policy wording, limits and partner duties control. | Cowbell says its in-house cyber claims team and response panel are available 24/7; have your policy number, incident date, details and contact ready. The issuing insurer and policy determine coverage and payment. 44,34,37Company-reported. Cowbell's current U.S. cyber claims-services page and product overviews; company-reported service description, not an independently measured outcome. |
