What Do Reviews Say About CNA Business Insurance?

Customer feedback on CNA is mixed and hard to compare. NerdWallet gave it 4.5 out of 5 for manufacturers, while Trustpilot shows about 1.4 out of 5 from 49 mostly self-selected reviews.

SourceScoreWhat to Know
NerdWallet9.0/ 10

Original: 4.5 / 5

NerdWallet names CNA Best for risk management services and gives 4.5/5 in manufacturer-specific assessment. It reports relatively low property/liability complaints but workers-comp complaints somewhat higher than expected for company size; not a full CNA review. General business stars exclude commercial auto and workers compensation.1

Page showed 1/5 from six reviews; dated 2023–2026 reports concern LTC premium increases and claims. BBB says not accredited and reviews not verified; consider size and volume. Negative LTC evidence is not evidence about commercial products.6

  • J.D. Power

The 2022 J.D. Power independent-agent study was located, but CNA's result could not be verified from the accessible evidence. No CNA score or respondent count is reported here.2

2022 U.S. Independent Agent Satisfaction Study; exact CNA result not inspected.

  • NAIC

NAIC says subsidiaries may appear under different names and complaint indices depend on company/state/line. No exact dynamic query resolved. Unresolved, not zero complaints or not-found.3,4

Exact insurer, state and line not identity-matched.

  • ConsumerAffairs

ConsumerAffairs includes CNA National vehicle service-contract and warranty reviews. In an August 7, 2026 reply on ConsumerAffairs, CNA National says it does not sell insurance. CNA identifies it as a wholly owned subsidiary offering warranty products. Exclude the 1.5/5, 26-review warranty metric from the commercial-insurance review population.7,8

NerdWallet gives CNA 4.5 out of 5 for manufacturers

NerdWallet named CNA best for risk management services in its March 2026 manufacturer guide. That 4.5 out of 5 is NerdWallet's own assessment for manufacturers, not customer votes, and it isn't a full review of CNA.1

NerdWallet says CNA gets relatively few property and liability complaints. It also says workers' compensation complaints run somewhat higher than you'd expect for a company this size.1

Trustpilot shows about 1.4 from 49 reviews

CNA's Trustpilot page isn't claimed by the company. The page text says 1.4 out of 5 and the badge says 1.5. Of the 49 reviews, 14 are from the last 12 months, and nearly all are one star.5

Trustpilot reviewers are self-selected, and this page mixes business and personal insurance, including long-term care. One reviewer is a business owner with a billing complaint. These are people's stories, not checked claim outcomes.5

Two review pages aren't about commercial insurance

BBB shows 1 out of 5 from six reviews, dated 2023 to 2026. They're about long-term care premium increases and claims, not business policies, so we show them but leave them out of the Review Score. BBB also says it hasn't verified these reviews.6

ConsumerAffairs lists 1.5 out of 5 from 26 reviews, but that page is for CNA National, which sells vehicle warranties. CNA National says it doesn't sell insurance, so we left it out.7,8

No J.D. Power or state complaint result for CNA

We found no CNA result in J.D. Power's 2022 study of independent agents. State complaint data (NAIC) is specific to the exact insurer, state and line, so there's no single CNA figure to show.2,3,4

The Review Score of 9.0 out of 10 comes from the NerdWallet rating alone. The Trustpilot score is shown but not counted because the page shows two different numbers, and BBB and the warranty page are left out.1,5

Limitations of CNA Review Data

  • The NerdWallet rating covers manufacturers only, not every kind of business.
  • Trustpilot and BBB reviews are self-selected and mix personal and business insurance.
  • Trustpilot's page text and badge disagree (1.4 and 1.5), so we show both.
  • There's no J.D. Power score or single complaint figure for CNA to compare.
  • All sources here cover the US.
