Does Cyber Insurance Cover AI Agents?
Sometimes. Cyber insurance can cover an AI agent incident that exposes data or causes unauthorized system activity, but only if it fits the policy's covered events and exclusions.
Sometimes. If an AI agent exposes data or triggers unauthorized activity in your systems, a cyber policy can respond, but only when the policy treats the agent, its provider and the resulting event as covered. Calling it an "agent" or pointing to automation doesn't change the answer either way.
The hard questions are about permission. Check who counts as an insured user, what the policy calls authorized access, and whether a third-party AI platform is treated as a dependent system or service provider. The FTC's vendor-security guidance applies when an outside AI service handles your data, but it doesn't promise coverage.
Read the exclusions for voluntary transfers, contractual promises, software errors and professional services. If an agent can move money, ask about funds-transfer fraud cover separately. Document the agent's access, human approvals and data retention so the underwriter prices your real exposure.
