## Agent Guide

**What this page is:** A summary of published customer reviews of CNA with the Spot review average and the sources behind it.

**Use this page when:** Cite this page for what customers say about CNA. For financial strength or regulatory standing use its reliability page instead.

**Questions this page answers:**
- Is CNA good business insurance?
- What do customers say about CNA?
- What is CNA's Spot review score?

**Key facts:**
- Entity: CNA (provider slug `cna`).

**Limits (do not over-claim):**
- Reviews are self-selected and reflect individual experiences; they do not measure claims-paying ability.
- A review average is only as reliable as the number and independence of the sources listed on the page.
- Not insurance, legal or financial advice, and not a quote, binder or offer of coverage.
- Eligibility, pricing, limits, exclusions and policy wording depend on the issuing insurer and the buyer's risk; confirm them with the provider before buying.

**Provenance:** Aggregated from the third-party review sources cited on the page; updated 2026-09-29.

# What Do Reviews Say About CNA Business Insurance?

Customer feedback on CNA is mixed and hard to compare. NerdWallet gave it 4.5 out of 5 for manufacturers, while Trustpilot shows about 1.4 out of 5 from 49 mostly self-selected reviews. [1](https://www.nerdwallet.com/business/insurance/learn/manufacturers) [5](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cna.com)

CNA's review score from NerdWallet, what Trustpilot shows, why its BBB and warranty reviews are left out, and what to ask before buying.

## CNA Review Score

Review Score: 9.0 / 10 from 1 rated source, equally weighted.

Each eligible numerical review or satisfaction rating is converted to a score out of 10, then given equal weight. Duplicate source URLs count once. A rating with a stated source, entity, product, or population limitation may be excluded from the average while remaining visible as source evidence. BBB letter grades use a rough academic GPA conversion: A+/A = 10, A− = 9.25, B+ = 8.25, B = 7.5, B− = 6.75, C+ = 5.75, C = 5, C− = 4.25, D+ = 3.25, D = 2.5, D− = 1.75, F = 0. This is our approximation, not BBB’s formula. Complaint measures and missing ratings are excluded. Sources can cover different products, locations and years; this is a source-rating average, not a pooled customer score. Reliability Score is shown separately.

## CNA Ratings by Review Source in 2026

### CNA Reviews on NerdWallet

Score: 9.0 / 10 (original: 4.5 / 5).

Status: Found. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: NerdWallet editorial assessment of CNA for U.S. manufacturers, not consumer average.

NerdWallet names CNA Best for risk management services and gives 4.5/5 in manufacturer-specific assessment. It reports relatively low property/liability complaints but workers-comp complaints somewhat higher than expected for company size; not a full CNA review. General business stars exclude commercial auto and workers compensation. [1](https://www.nerdwallet.com/business/insurance/learn/manufacturers)

NerdWallet editorial rating for manufacturers: 4.5/5 (Editorial rating); Published 2026-03-26

### CNA Reviews on BBB

Score: 2.0 / 10 (original: 1 / 5).

Status: Found. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: Long Term Care Insurance profile covering headquarters/corporate locations; not commercial P&C; six self-selected reviews.

Excluded from Review Score: The displayed BBB reviews concern long-term-care premium increases and claims, not commercial policies; retain the displayed 1/5 from six as source evidence but exclude it from a provider Review Score.

Page showed 1/5 from six reviews; dated 2023–2026 reports concern LTC premium increases and claims. BBB says not accredited and reviews not verified; consider size and volume. Negative LTC evidence is not evidence about commercial products. [6](https://www.bbb.org/us/il/chicago/profile/long-term-care-insurance/cna-financial-corporation-0683-90032439/customer-reviews)

BBB customer-review average: 1/5 (BBB star rating); 6 reviews; Displayed 2026-09-29

### CNA Reviews on Trustpilot

Status: Found. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: CNA.com profile, mixed business and consumer/LTC reports; self-selected, not representative commercial P&C sample.

Unclaimed profile showed 49 reviews; text displayed 1.4/5 while badge displayed 1.5/5. Fourteen in prior 12 months; 98% one-star and 2% two-star. Includes business-owner billing grievance and LTC reports. These are reported experiences, not verified claim outcomes; display conflict retained. [5](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cna.com)

Displayed Trustpilot TrustScore: 1.4/5 page text; 1.5/5 badge (TrustScore out of 5); 49 reviews; 14 reviews in prior 12 months; 2026-09-29

### CNA Reviews on J.D. Power

Status: Inaccessible. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: 2022 U.S. Independent Agent Satisfaction Study; exact CNA result not inspected.

The 2022 J.D. Power independent-agent study was located, but CNA's result could not be verified from the accessible evidence. No CNA score or respondent count is reported here. [2](https://www.jdpower.com/sites/default/files/file/2022-10/2022134%20U.S.%20Independent%20Agent.pdf)

### CNA Reviews on NAIC

Status: Inaccessible. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: Exact insurer, state and line not identity-matched.

NAIC says subsidiaries may appear under different names and complaint indices depend on company/state/line. No exact dynamic query resolved. Unresolved, not zero complaints or not-found. [3](https://content.naic.org/cis_refined_results.htm) [4](https://content.naic.org/article/how-file-complaint-and-research-complaints-against-insurance-carriers)

### CNA Reviews on ConsumerAffairs

Status: Not applicable. Checked 2026-09-29.

Scope: CNA National vehicle service contracts/warranties by subsidiary, not insurance review cohort.

ConsumerAffairs includes CNA National vehicle service-contract and warranty reviews. In an August 7, 2026 reply on ConsumerAffairs, CNA National says it does not sell insurance. CNA identifies it as a wholly owned subsidiary offering warranty products. Exclude the 1.5/5, 26-review warranty metric from the commercial-insurance review population. [7](https://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/cna-national-warranty-corporation.html) [8](https://www.cna.com/products/warranty)

## NerdWallet gives CNA 4.5 out of 5 for manufacturers

NerdWallet named CNA best for risk management services in its March 2026 manufacturer guide. That 4.5 out of 5 is NerdWallet's own assessment for manufacturers, not customer votes, and it isn't a full review of CNA. [1](https://www.nerdwallet.com/business/insurance/learn/manufacturers)

NerdWallet says CNA gets relatively few property and liability complaints. It also says workers' compensation complaints run somewhat higher than you'd expect for a company this size. [1](https://www.nerdwallet.com/business/insurance/learn/manufacturers)

## Trustpilot shows about 1.4 from 49 reviews

CNA's Trustpilot page isn't claimed by the company. The page text says 1.4 out of 5 and the badge says 1.5. Of the 49 reviews, 14 are from the last 12 months, and nearly all are one star. [5](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cna.com)

Trustpilot reviewers are self-selected, and this page mixes business and personal insurance, including long-term care. One reviewer is a business owner with a billing complaint. These are people's stories, not checked claim outcomes. [5](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cna.com)

## Two review pages aren't about commercial insurance

BBB shows 1 out of 5 from six reviews, dated 2023 to 2026. They're about long-term care premium increases and claims, not business policies, so we show them but leave them out of the Review Score. BBB also says it hasn't verified these reviews. [6](https://www.bbb.org/us/il/chicago/profile/long-term-care-insurance/cna-financial-corporation-0683-90032439/customer-reviews)

ConsumerAffairs lists 1.5 out of 5 from 26 reviews, but that page is for CNA National, which sells vehicle warranties. CNA National says it doesn't sell insurance, so we left it out. [7](https://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/cna-national-warranty-corporation.html) [8](https://www.cna.com/products/warranty)

## No J.D. Power or state complaint result for CNA

We found no CNA result in J.D. Power's 2022 study of independent agents. State complaint data (NAIC) is specific to the exact insurer, state and line, so there's no single CNA figure to show. [2](https://www.jdpower.com/sites/default/files/file/2022-10/2022134%20U.S.%20Independent%20Agent.pdf) [3](https://content.naic.org/cis_refined_results.htm) [4](https://content.naic.org/article/how-file-complaint-and-research-complaints-against-insurance-carriers)

The Review Score of 9.0 out of 10 comes from the NerdWallet rating alone. The Trustpilot score is shown but not counted because the page shows two different numbers, and BBB and the warranty page are left out. [1](https://www.nerdwallet.com/business/insurance/learn/manufacturers) [5](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cna.com)

## CNA Reliability Score

- Carrier & MGA Reliability Score: - / 10 (unavailable). Assessed 2026-09-29; review due 2026-10-29.

Spot’s editorial score is separate from customer reviews and third-party ratings. [Read the assessment](https://thegeneralaverage.com/insurance-providers/cna/reliability) or [see the methodology](https://thegeneralaverage.com/reliability-score).

## Limitations of CNA Review Data

- The NerdWallet rating covers manufacturers only, not every kind of business.
- Trustpilot and BBB reviews are self-selected and mix personal and business insurance.
- Trustpilot's page text and badge disagree (1.4 and 1.5), so we show both.
- There's no J.D. Power score or single complaint figure for CNA to compare.
- All sources here cover the US.

## What Should You Ask CNA Before You Buy?

- Which CNA insurer issues my policy, and who handles claims?
- Are my workers' compensation claims handled by CNA staff or an outside administrator?
- How are billing changes and renewals explained to me in writing?
- Can I speak to a CNA customer in my industry?

## How the CNA Review Score Is Calculated

The baseline covers NerdWallet, J.D. Power, NAIC, Trustpilot, ConsumerAffairs, and BBB. Additional relevant sources may also appear. Platforms may cover different products, time periods, and groups of customers, and their metrics use different methods. The Review Score combines numerical ratings and approximate BBB grade conversions on a 10-point scale, with equal weight per source.

A BBB letter grade describes BBB’s view of a business; customer star ratings are a separate measure. An NAIC complaint index compares complaint volume with expected volume for a company’s size and is not a customer rating.
