Cyber insurance may cover ransomware response, restoration, interruption, and extortion costs, subject to each section’s trigger and limits.

Ransomware can encrypt data, interrupt operations, threaten to publish stolen information, and create response and restoration expenses. FTC guidance lists data recovery, lost income, forensic services, and extortion among possible first-party coverages; an AIG specimen requires prior written consent for certain extortion payments.
