# Builders Risk vs. Inland Marine Insurance: What’s the Difference?

Builders risk can be written on an inland marine form, but that does not mean it covers every kind of mobile property.

The cited specimen covers specified property at a construction project and includes limited storage and transit extensions. It excludes contractor tools, so compare the actual forms if you need protection for equipment across multiple jobs.

“Inland marine” is a broader line label, not a promise that any contractor’s equipment or material is covered. The specimen builders risk form excludes contractor tools and equipment even though it is an inland marine form. A contractor may need separate scheduled or floating coverage for tools, machinery, or property moving between locations.

Compare the actual forms rather than the product names. Check project boundaries, property ownership, storage sites, transit, tools, rented equipment, limits, and valuation. Ask whether the policy is tied to one construction project or is intended to cover mobile property across ongoing jobs.
